Hello,
After creating four different interfaces – one based on Noxon, two more using optocouplers, and one using a MAX232 – and none of them being recognized, I'm starting to get desperate. Could the problem be with the PC?
I tested a 486 computer with Windows 95 and a brand new computer running Windows XP. Is one too new and the other too old?
Regards,
Thorsten.

Hi.
That's quite remarkable... For example, download the adapter test software from the diagnostic article along with the instructions and use it to thoroughly test the components.
Which adapter designs have you replicated? Gruß Ulf

Hey,
As I said, once using Jeff Noxon's method, twice using the ILD 74, and once using the MAX232, following this link: http://www.klippklapp-klepp.de/Elektronik/Autoelektrik/OBD-Interface/Optimalschaltung/optimalschaltung.htm.
Will the adapter be recognized if there is no K-signal, meaning it only has voltage?

Hi.
What does twice with the ILD 74 mean?
What resistor values, etc., did you use for the "optimal circuit"? I couldn't find anything about it when I quickly glanced at it...
Furthermore, it appears that Maik's circuit has been more or less copied here, which is evident from the presence of the trimmers.

Normally, yes, a vehicle-side K-signal is not required. Gruß Ulf

I've already sent you the instructions via email.
The simplified version can be found at the following link: http://hal9000.vc-graz.ac.at/3rdfloor/projects/diagnose/Diagnose-Interface.htm.
My computer didn't recognize the adapter.
Best regards,

That is likely also the Noxon circuit in practice.

Here's another tip: the adapter test software can be very helpful when troubleshooting, especially if you understand the basic function of each adapter circuit. Gruß Ulf
