hello everyone,

Is it still a good idea to buy a Golf IV TDI with 110 horsepower, manufactured in 1998 and with 206,000 kilometers on the odometer, or would you advise against it?

What problems/wear and tear parts are common? What should you pay attention to?

'Thank you.'
w.

Hello,

I would say it depends on the price. icon_cool.gif
If the water pump and fuel injectors are still the original ones, you should factor in the cost of replacing them.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi,

The third timing belt should be replaced at this mileage.
Regarding the engine, I agree with Rainer.

Regarding the vehicle, I would recommend having the front axle checked. Some G4 models have a significant amount of rattling.

I'm looking to sell my Golf IV 1.9 TDI Highline, manufactured in 1/98, 5-door, with 95,000 km. It features sport seats, 4 electric windows, electric side mirrors, a ski pass-through, 3 headrests in the rear, tinted glass, air conditioning, central locking with remote key, an alarm system, fog lights, MFA (Multi-Function Display), GRA (automatic headlight range adjustment), a sunroof, a safety package, a chip from ********, and a warranty valid until 13.3.2005. The timing belt and rollers, water pump, and shock absorbers have all been replaced. It has a Gamma radio with a 6-disc changer, 16' Montreal alloy wheels, and 8 winter tires (4 on steel rims, 4 on alloy rims). I was hoping to get around 9,500 Euros for it, but I listed it on a large online car marketplace without a photo for 10,900 Euros (negotiable), and my phone hasn't stopped ringing!

I wanted to sell the car because it's going to be sitting more than being driven soon, but I'm actually more attached to it than I thought *g*.

What was that about m...?
By the way, surprisingly many people who claimed to be resellers had a Turkish-German accent.
One of them, after I said that someone else had offered me 9,500 euros, replied: 'No matter what someone else offers you, I'll give you 200 euros more!'

But who knows what mileage the car would have had when it was resold later?

I have also experienced that even German authorized dealers sometimes, without being seen, significantly outbid their colleagues who are already familiar with the product.

Regards,
Olaf.

P.S.
It actually went on sale later, so it wasn't just empty promises... (unlike with m....)

My experiences were like this:
The further away the bidder was, the higher they bid. Some of the bids were bizarrely high. Ultimately, it was just a trick to ensure that you wouldn't sell the car elsewhere and that you would reject offers from as many other potential buyers as possible. Those who were located particularly far away tried to compensate for their distance and time disadvantage by making especially attractive offers.
Once the local dealer contacts you, things change, and the complaining and haggling begin, and you've already canceled your appointments with everyone else.

Joachim.

Moral: So, be careful when it's far away...
It was less than 100 km from my place, so it was easy to just drive by.

Regards,

Olaf.
