Hello,
I'm having a problem with the factory-installed auxiliary heater and would appreciate some help.
My car is a Golf V, 2.0 TDI 4Motion, first registered in October 2005. The auxiliary heater has a problem: when you press the corresponding button on the climate control panel, it lights up for about 2 seconds and then turns off, without anything happening with the auxiliary heater.
First, here are the details of the auxiliary heater, as indicated on the sticker in the engine compartment:

Maximum heat output: 5.0 kW.
Fuel: Diesel/PME.
Maximum operating pressure: 2.5 bar.
Part number 1K0 010375 R | .
Okay, here are the error codes that were read:
Quote: | Error code: 1299.
Central control unit, CAN bus.

Does anyone have any ideas, or perhaps someone even knows exactly what's causing this?
Thank you very much!
Best regards,
Dieter.

First, the device won't start because it's locked. This needs to be reset. The reason for this could be undervoltage or a faulty glow plug. Clear the error codes and see what happens next. However, it seems very likely that the glow plug needs to be replaced.

Thank you, Matthias.
I don't understand much of it, and a friend deleted the error.
Is the device unlocked again, or do we need to physically interact with the device itself (the problem persists even when I press the button on the climate control panel)?

VCDS has a function to unlock the control unit of the auxiliary heater. I would try that first and see how it behaves. Clearing the error codes does not reset the lock.

I only have time to focus on this topic again now.
In the meantime, I contacted a specialized company online, providing the error codes, to inquire about the possibility of a diagnosis and a price quote. The response was that the combustion chamber needs to be replaced because the glow plug for the TT-V model cannot be changed. The cost is approximately 200 euros for a new combustion chamber and about 100 euros for installation and a dynamometer test.
According to online research, it appears that the spark plug cannot actually be replaced in the TT-V.
Furthermore, the research revealed that the seals should also be replaced when a new burner is installed. However, the above-mentioned company did not mention this.
Does anyone know anything about the seals?
As the next step, I will unlock the auxiliary heater to determine the best course of action. According to the Webasto workshop manual, you need to access the heater wiring harness to remove the 20A fuse. Does anyone know where I can find that fuse in a Golf 5?
Thank you!

Hello,
I can't say anything about the seals.
Regarding unlocking: The procedure you described is actually for aftermarket heating systems. Yours is connected to the CAN bus and should therefore be unlockable via diagnostics.
Before you disassemble it, check the resistance values in the measurements. While controlling the device, you can also activate the igniter and observe the resistance of the flame sensor. Use a charger during this process.

The answer was that the burner assembly needs to be replaced because the glow plug on the TT-V model cannot be changed.

Okay, so it is. If the error code 1412 reappears and there are still startup problems, malfunctions, smoke, etc. with the Webasto, then exactly what you wrote there needs to be done.
The new burner insert comes as a kit, including the seal for the combustion chamber and the three screws.
This is the typical failure pattern for this type of heater. Owners of Touran auxiliary heaters are all too familiar with this problem. Passat Variant BGW 2005

After clearing the errors and unlocking the system, the SH could be started differently than before, and a flame could be heard in the combustion chamber. However, after approximately 2 minutes, it shut down, and the button on the climate control panel no longer lit up. A second scan revealed the two errors 01299 and 01412. We attempted to start the SH a second and third time, but it shut down each time, even within about 1 minute. The exhaust fumes were noticeably smoky, even for a diesel engine, although not as drastic as some have reported in online forums.
I then asked the VCDS user, at my own responsibility, to start an actuator diagnosis of the glow plug in order to "burn out" the glow plug. However, only the coolant pump was available for this. The selective actuator test could not be selected, as it was grayed out. The VCDS user may see the cause in error code 01299, although this code means nothing to him.
Can anyone explain why an actuator diagnosis is not possible in this case?

Hello,
The electronics might be faulty. Can you continuously access the control unit for the auxiliary heating system (e.g., is there a block of measured values available) and check if the connection to the heating system is lost while the heating is running?
01299 is a communication error.
Best regards, Rainer.
PS: The specific types of actuator tests, whether sequential or selective, are determined by the respective control unit.

Hello Rainer,
Quote: | | Can you permanently access the auxiliary heating control unit (e.g., is there a data block available) and, while the heater is running, check if the connection to the heater is interrupted? |
I would have to ask a VCDS user about that, as VCDS is completely new to me.
Quote: | | PS: The specific types of actuator tests that are possible, whether sequential or selective, are determined by the respective control unit. |
Unfortunately, this makes it even more puzzling for me: Does this mean that the diagnosis of the glow plug actuator can only be performed using the selective actuator test?
Does this also mean that some owners of auxiliary heaters are lucky (because their control unit supports the selective actuator test), while others are unlucky (because their control unit only supports the sequential actuator test), even though they have the same Webasto TT-V auxiliary heater installed?
If that's really the case, that's really unfortunate... My Golf 5 was first registered in October 2005, so maybe that's why there's no selective actuator test available.
Best regards,
Dieter.

Hello Dieter,
I don't know if all Webasto control units are the same in this regard. There are the differences described above when it comes to engine control units (or, more precisely, generations of control units).
If the order of steps is chosen reasonably well, it doesn't matter whether you can directly access the spark plug or if you have to click "next" a few times first.
"Burnt-in" issues are unlikely to be resolved by simply restarting the device. You should be able to find some posts in this forum that discuss disassembly."
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,
Ideally, someone with expertise in auxiliary heaters might chime in here. Otherwise, my next step would be to contact the VCDS user again and see if the auxiliary heater control unit can be accessed continuously.
dieselschrauber wrote: | | Priming is probably not going to help, and there should be some posts in this forum about disassembly. |
You are almost taking away my last hope.
There's even a video on YouTube that shows the TT-V being disassembled: IQ-lRnmGzLg.
While it may seem trivial, I actually have some respect for taking things apart, because if a novice makes a mistake, the whole thing could potentially catch fire.
I also inquired with an online specialist company, and they quoted 300 euros for the replacement of the combustion chamber, including a dynamometer test. Theoretically, the control unit could also be faulty, and since a replacement for the basic parking assist system already costs around 100 euros, I don't even want to think about how much a new one for the auxiliary heater would cost...
There are also two providers that promise affordable repairs:
-Der erste heißt Standheizungen R., der vorgibt ein Service-Center für Webasto und Eberspächer zu sein. Allerdings wird er auf der offiziellen Webasto-Seite nicht gelistet, wenn ich seine Adresse eingebe. Außerdem ist das schicke Foto vom 01.03.2016 mit dem am Auto angeschlossenen Laptop aus einem englischsprachigen Forum entnommen worden... Mein Gefühl rät mir davon ab, hier eine Reparatur in Auftrag zu geben. WiDo you see that?
-The second one is called "Standheizung-D" and gives a more professional impression. He also writes that many defects in the control units can be fixed without expensive new parts, and it's possible that the control unit in my car is damaged. Furthermore, the conclusion in online forums is that the glow plug for the Webasto TT-V cannot be replaced and a new combustion chamber is needed, but it might still be worth getting an opinion from "Standheizung-D" about it, especially since he promises repairs at a fixed price. What do you think about that?
If any experienced users here would like to suggest a different approach, please let me know.
Best regards,
Dieter.

Die Prozedur für den Zwangsstart geht bei dem Modell nicht über die Stellglieddiagnose. PPlease provide the text you would like me to translate.
Prerequisite:
- Battery charged (to prevent shutdown due to low voltage).
-Engine not at operating temperature.
Okay, let's go:
- Connect to device 18.
- Auxiliary heating Unlock (using VCDS, not by removing fuses)
- Delete errors.
- Function: Basic settings.
-Channel 11-
-Start
It should start now.
The test run will now be restarted with the default settings for channel 33.
It's likely that it will lock and turn off again after a short time, because the problem still exists.
With coke-encrusted heating devices, a forced start can produce a lot of smoke.
Typically, when this type of error occurs, the burner and glow plug are affected. Passat Variant BGW 2005

Forget about it. Spare parts for Webasto heaters originally installed by the manufacturer are only available exclusively at the car dealership, not in retail stores.
This is the first thing you'll notice when you try to overhaul a heating system yourself.
We use these cars as company vehicles for our field service technicians. When the auxiliary heaters fail, we take the heater units to VW. We remove the heater, connect the water hoses with connectors (e.g., Gates 28605), and deliver them to VW. They then send them internally for refurbishment.
"The burner with the candle was almost always broken. And that repair usually cost around 300 euros. All the heaters worked fine afterwards. That's when you experience the least amount of trouble. However, there are definitely waiting times, especially during this time of year. That's when many other drivers realize that their auxiliary heaters or parking heaters are broken." Here are two questions:
- What is meant by "Stg.18"? (The VCDS user will probably know this, but I want to clarify it beforehand to avoid wasting time.)
-Does this test run perfectly replicate what happens when you unlock the SH (likely referring to a specific system or module) using VCDS and start it via the climate control panel?

Several workshops I contacted informally suggested that replacement parts for the Webasto originally installed by the manufacturer are only available from VW. However, I then found a supplier online in Jessen OT Kleindröben (I think it's frowned upon in forums to include links to offers, so I'll refrain from doing so for now) who offers all replacement parts, even for the Webasto TT-V.
How can that be?
Steffen W wrote: | | We use these cars as company vehicles for our sales representatives. When the auxiliary heaters fail, we take the heater units to VW. Since this is new territory for me:
-With this connector, I'm closing the water circuit that is now open due to the expanded SH, right?
-How do I then shut off the fuel supply line?
-More components wouldn't need to be disconnected for the car to be drivable, even with the SH (presumably a specific component) removed, right?
Steffen W wrote: | | The burner with the candle was almost always broken. And that almost always cost around 300 euros. |
The price would be okay (it even seems cheap for a VW, in my opinion) and includes materials and labor, right?

"Stg 18" is the control unit for the factory-installed auxiliary heater.
The water hoses will be connected so you can drive without the heater until it's repaired. For the diesel line, use a small screw; an M4 size works well.
The forced start is a heating system start initiated by the user. The heating system performs a test cycle. If this test cycle is not possible due to existing faults, the system locks and shuts down.
You can also manually stop the process at any time by using channel 33.
If you've previously cleared the error memory, then the current error code is now displayed, and you know where to start troubleshooting. In your case, that step is already completed, and your error codes are clear.
I once had a Touran where the auxiliary heater smoked (and smelled) like an old pile of manure that was starting to burn. The smoking eventually stopped after several heating cycles, but the combustion chamber still needed to be replaced.
I also don't know where the guy from the internet gets his parts.
He might have a good customer number at the car dealership, but that's purely speculative.
At Webasto, they immediately hang up the phone and try to direct you to a car dealership as soon as they realize you're asking about an original VW heating system. Passat Variant BGW 2005
