My sister's Mini has error code 2845 VANOS: Exhaust camshaft control movement detected in the error memory.
I used the tester to control it, and it moves through three different positions.
Target: 94° +/- 5 --> Actual: 91-94°
Target: 68° +/- 5 --> Actual: 69-74°
Target: 114° +/- 5 --> Actual: 113-114°
Currently, the error is not active, and it is working. I think the 1-degree deviation during the second activation can probably be ignored.

I removed the valve cover and unscrewed the first bearing cap. The bearing cap shows some slight wear on the sealing rings. I can't say what the condition of the cylinder head is like, as I didn't remove the camshaft.

Allegedly, this is a vulnerability. Can anyone confirm this? And is there another way besides replacing the ZK (Zündkerzen - spark plugs)?

Hello everyone!

If no one else dares to, I'll give it a try - it's better than nothing, maybe icon_wink.gif.

Mistwagen engines often experience issues with the associated solenoid valves of the Vanos system.
Most often, the inlet and outlet are compatible and can be interchanged for testing purposes.
I would recommend thoroughly cleaning these valves, including the seats.
After that, perform an oil change (including the filter, of course) using oil with the correct specification.

Often, this resolves the sporadic error messages.

Okay, I've looked around in another forum, and apparently this issue with the engine running rough might be common for many 88kW models, and it's supposedly related to the engine breaking in. I removed and cleaned the solenoid valve, but I didn't swap any parts.
With the newer models, the piston rings are made of plastic, but it's unclear whether that's actually an improvement.
