'Hi everyone, after completely converting my 1992 Golf 3 with a 60 HP gasoline engine to a 1996 diesel engine and axles, I've been experiencing a cracking sound after about 10,000 km since the conversion. The cracking seems to be coming from the passenger side, in the rear axle area. It's especially noticeable when accelerating and braking. It happens more frequently after cornering (at low speeds, like in city driving) and when the car is loaded. I've already searched through other posts about this, but they're mostly about the Golf 4 model, and I'm not sure how much the differences are. Before I completely disassemble the rear of the car, it would be great if someone could give me a clue as to what might be causing it. Thanks in advance. - Christian'

PS: I also need an A/C condenser for a VW Golf 3. If anyone has one, please email me.

hi!

Try adjusting and tightening the rear shock absorber mount again.

After my modifications, I also had a problem with a clicking noise when starting, during stronger acceleration in lower gears, and when using the engine brake, but it seemed to be coming from the front axle. I searched and replaced parts like crazy, but I couldn't find the source. Now, it disappeared on its own over the winter.

If the noise is coming from the rear axle, I would check the rear axle mounting and ensure the shock absorbers and springs are installed correctly (install the shock absorber mounts with talcum powder to prevent sticking). It's also possible that the spring has become twisted.
