A recent discussion thread suggested a potentially "objective" quality metric:
"Wooden hammer" tuning can probably be identified by the fact that the vehicle exhibits jolts or vibrations immediately after the tuning process, particularly under specific operating conditions (load, RPM), where there was previously smooth operation.
That might provide an approach for collecting experience, from which one could infer the actual tuning effort required for systems that are
truly operated.
Of course, a properly tuned system that is essentially free of "ruckrel" (engine knocking) does not necessarily provide a guarantee against consequential damage caused by excessive boost pressure and/or fuel injection volumes.
