Hello friends, I have a problem. icon_rolleyes.gif

I replaced the idle speed control valve on an A4 V6 ABC and, as described in the repair manual, performed a basic adjustment using VCDS.
So far, everything had gone well, until I, in my eagerness, started a basic ignition timing adjustment.

Now, the ignition timing is at 0* -- previously, it was approximately 5* before top dead center (BTDC). icon_eek.gif

How can I terminate the basic setting or adjust the ignition timing using VCDS?
Do I need to log in for that?

Hi Driver123,

During the initial setting, the relevant actuator is typically controlled to a specific, defined position so that it is possible to determine whether the effect is correct. (Or, in the case of the throttle valve initial setting, the engine control unit can determine whether the effect is correct.)

In normal operating mode, the engine control unit controls the relevant actuator based on the environmental/operating conditions, making it difficult or impossible to verify the effect or whether the correct value for the corresponding parameter is being set.

Generally, adjusting the ignition timing will move it to one of its possible extreme positions, either the most advanced or the most retarded. Then, either by checking an existing measurement or, in the case of ignition timing, often using a strobe light, you can a) see if it's correct and b) adjust the mechanical initial setting if necessary.

It's quite likely that the same applies to the ABC engine. Does the ignition timing displayed in the basic setting mode change?

Best regards, Rainer.
