KData Scope: Unable to Activate/Unlock

Hello fellow diesel mechanics,

I hope I'm in the right place with my inquiry.

I recently purchased the VCDS professional diagnostic system KKL+CAN and have already done quite a bit with it.

Okay, I wanted to try data logging and reading with KDataScope. However, I can't open any logs because KDataScope always tells me that I need to activate it. I tried connecting it to the car's interface and first connected it with VCDS to make sure I have a connection.
After that, I started KDataScope and tried to open a log file from VCDS, but it didn't work because the license couldn't be activated.

After that, connect the laptop to the internet and try logging in using the customer account username and password. However, I always receive the error message: "Unable to connect to the 'dieselschrauber' server, or the customer account login credentials are invalid."

I have already tried reinstalling the program multiple times (both the German and English versions), and also on two different laptops, one with Windows 7 Professional and one with Windows 10 Home, but without success.

I've also tried running KDataScope as an administrator, but unfortunately, that didn't work either.

Both operating systems are current and always up-to-date, and VCDS runs without any problems.

Hello Dominik,

KDataScope uses the exact same data for activation as the login process for the customer account on the Dieselschrauber-Shop website. Therefore, if you can log in to your customer account, the activation should also work.
If you are certain that you have not accidentally mistyped anything here (pay attention to capitalization) and your operating system is at least Windows XP SP3, then in 99% of cases, the cause is that you have infected your computer with spyware/malware that is eavesdropping on SSL/TLS connections.

The fact that KDataScope is not activated is the least of your problems in this case, because why would someone be spying on encrypted connections? The keywords "online banking" and "webmail" come to mind.

KDataScope verifies the identity of the other party during connections, including authorization/licensing. If it's not my diesel engine unlocking code, the process is aborted.

For example, it has been documented that eavesdropping occurs through a tool (Sysprofile) that uploads "computer configurations" to a website, essentially a virtual "benchmark" comparison. It's likely that all sorts of other data is also being uploaded elsewhere.

You can check what happens during an activation attempt in the Windows command line using the command: `netstat -bn`.
KDataScope needs to connect to the IP address 178.209.53.204 (IP: ping dieselschrauber.de). Connecting to other IP addresses will result in a "sniffing" server that has nothing to do with us.

But now that it is public, the snooping software will probably be adjusted.

Thank you very much for your quick response!

I used the command `netstat -bn` in the Windows command prompt to check the IP address. KDataScope always connects to the remote address: 178.209.53.204:443.

I can log in to the shop normally. However, I still get the error message described above when using the same login credentials in KDataScope.

When I try to enable KDAtaScope through the interface, I get an error message saying that no interface is connected, even though VCDS is working normally.

The KDataScope unlocking feature is only available in the RKS+CAN interfaces (which are our own designs), and not in the MicroCAN, HEX-USB+CAN, or HEX-NET interfaces.

Accidentally copied/pasted a space into your email address or password?
If not, you cannot rely on secure SSL/TLS connections to your computers.

You might also want to run a virus scan on the entire system.

Hello Dominik,

KDataScope requires a secure connection to the server, one that prevents unauthorized access and modification. Otherwise, the licensing would be meaningless.

The connection doesn't need to be permanently online, but it does need to be connected for licensing purposes. I recommend practicing good computer hygiene, and that should resolve the issue.

Another option for unlocking would be the RKS+CAN diagnostic hardware.

However, I strongly advise you to take the issue of insecure/eavesdropped encrypted connections seriously, unless you don't care about compromised email or online banking.
