BMW 1 Series: Sudden Smoke & No Power?

Hi!

Yesterday, I drove my 1996 Passat as usual.
This morning, when I started it, I noticed that the engine was running a little rough. I gave it some gas, but the RPMs didn't increase much, and it filled the whole street with white smoke.

Does anyone have any ideas?
What surprises me is that there was nothing yesterday.

The diagnostic scan revealed no errors.

Have you checked all the fluids yet? Especially the coolant?

If you're talking about the exhaust manifold, it doesn't smoke when idling, and I can't imagine something like that would break down overnight.

What information is stored in the error memory?

Intermittent idle signal.
(The tachometer has been malfunctioning for the past few days, occurring 1-3 times.)
Nothing else.

If you had VCDS, you could compare the actual and target values for the start of injection.

Update:
The oil pressure light is not turning off, and I can smell burning oil coming from the exhaust pipe when idling. The engine hesitates or is reluctant to accelerate. However, I don't hear any knocking sounds.
And that happened overnight? That's somehow illogical.

Mileage? If very high, consider the possibility of a piston failure...

With VCDS, you can check the idle speed control in the engine control unit.

Check valve timing.

330,000 km. But a crack overnight? It was running at full power yesterday.
I don't have the "killer screw" installed; I checked it before, and it's already the harder version.
I only have VAGCOM available.

Even without a faulty bolt, the shock absorber can sometimes fail abruptly, and this issue can manifest overnight after starting the engine.
