Hello,
I have a chip from ********.
Have it professionally installed in my car by a larger workshop that repairs electrical appliances and televisions.
(Audi TDI 110 hp, engine code AFN) (no liability assumed for this engine control unit).
Now it's not starting anymore. What should I do? What's wrong, hip? Did something go wrong while soldering? Baust Du Turbo an Diesel,läuft Diesel wie Wiesel

Hi.
How can you perform a remote diagnosis in that situation?
Anything, no matter how nonsensical, can be put on the chip.
Possibly, its checksum doesn't match the rest of the software (but I only have a superficial understanding of this -> experts, please correct me).
And of course, something could have gone wrong during the soldering process.

That could cost you a new engine computer (instead of the TV repair shop). Gruß Ulf

Have you checked to see if you can now adjust the volume of your TV in the living room using the gas pedal?
Ugh... If I were you, I would:
- Have the socket soldered in instead of the chip; I don't understand why this wasn't done.
- Place the old chip into the socket.
I assume that the technicians who installed the TV didn't simply haphazardly glue the chip in; depending on the IC, there are usually clear markings to indicate the correct orientation.
But who knows that?
If it then doesn't start, you just go to the friendly mechanic and shell out a few euros for a new control unit.
Best regards, Rainer.

Does the WFS also need to be adjusted?
I would take it to a professional tuner and have them install something with a warranty. If that still doesn't work, get an engine control unit (ECU) from a salvage yard and have the professional tuner reprogram it. It won't cost you much more than buying a completely new one from VauWeh.
I initially read 'Immotion-tuning' instead of 'inmotion' ... 'Immotion' would have been fitting: nothing moves anymore .

hello!
I highly doubt that the In-Tuning company sent the wrong memory modules.
I would rather suspect a bad solder joint or incorrectly placed EEPROMs.
check it again.

Hello,
Thank you for the answers.
The EPROMs are correctly installed.
I've now sent the entire control unit to In-Tuning. They claim it's usually due to poor solder joints, but shouldn't people who repair televisions all year round be able to solder?
Quote: | | Does the WFS also need to be adjusted? |
It only needs to be adjusted in another (new) control unit.
You can only find such a control unit at a recycling center, and it's very rare.
What is the approximate cost of such a control unit? Baust Du Turbo an Diesel,läuft Diesel wie Wiesel

but actually, shouldn't people who repair televisions all year round also be able to solder???
Okay, so we have mandatory password training for our employees, but even that doesn't really help.
Sometimes, what I see on television makes me lose all faith and inspires me to come up with a thousand new things I can do with a soldering iron and pliers.
I'm not sure what type of chip package the AFN control unit uses, but if it's surface mount (SMD), I'm already concerned about getting perfect solder joints. Especially, the use of incorrect solder (which is still sometimes used in 'backyard workshops') is a major problem.
Otherwise, is there any other progress? Does the preheating light at least come on briefly? Can you try to trigger an error (e.g., by disconnecting the pump)? If so, connect a diagnostic tool and see what it says. Maybe it's still the wrong chip.
You should NEVER, EVER order something like that by mail. You'll likely receive some copied material, possibly with outdated information.
CU Gremlin.

hi!
As I mentioned before, I suspect a bad solder joint. They often look perfect, but are actually faulty.
When do radios and televisions ever use PLCC32 sockets anymore? They're practically never used... blah blah blah!!
What kind of STG are you putting together?
It depends. But I'd say with 100€ you can get a very good deal, but the prices go up to 400€, so you really have to haggle, otherwise you won't get anywhere!

Hi Gremlin,
"Besides the warning lights being on and the starter motor and engine turning over, nothing else is working. I also can't establish a connection to the engine control unit using VAG-COM."
I've now sent the control unit to ******** because they informed me via email that the problem usually lies in the solder joints. Hopefully, they can "repair" the control unit.
"I actually trusted that TV repair guy completely, believing he could fix it. The workshop manager also said, 'There's a 99% chance the control unit will be working again if they solder in the chip.' He said it's like in the operating room at the doctor's office: '99% of the time, everything goes well, but 1% of the time, things go wrong.'"
By the way, it cost 50 euros to have it soldered in.
Actually, I wanted to solder it myself, but then I thought it would be better to have a professional do it because I don't have enough soldering experience.
Luckily, I still have a motorcycle (XJR1200) in the garage, so I can still get around. A car that doesn't work isn't worth the money!
Hi TDI-Seppl,
Does anyone have a good, working engine control unit (ECU)?
038 906 018 FD (Audi A4 TDI 110 hp, manufactured in 1999, engine code AFN).
For 100 euros, I would definitely buy it. Baust Du Turbo an Diesel,läuft Diesel wie Wiesel

Hello!
Did the preheating lamp come on?
It might not be the solder joints; I've often seen that with shipping chips, the checksum is simply forgotten to be adjusted. I generally advise against using shipping chips unless you really know where they come from (I don't know anything about "inmotion"!).

PS: The control unit costs €880 from the dealer, but I also have one for you if you want. You can also get a tuned one or even one for manual shifting .

Hello,
What was the defect in your control unit?
Was wurde repariert, oder musste ein neues ersetzt werden?

The control unit is working again; it had bad solder joints. You really can't rely on anyone these days.
