Hey everyone,
I had already asked about this before in the Volvo forum, but there are also several Volvo experts here, as I found out. Therefore, I am also asking this question here.
I need your advice.

I have been searching for my dream car, a Volvo V70, for quite some time. I previously owned a V70 of the 3rd generation, but I'm now looking for the predecessor model. In my opinion, one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen on our roads.

I've been looking at a Volvo and now I want to buy it.

It is one of the early P26 Volvo V70 D5s with 163 horsepower.

To the good stuff itself:

He has driven it for almost 200,000 km. Full leather interior, auxiliary heating, and a lightly used detachable tow hitch are, in terms of equipment, probably the highlights.

The car had never seen a motor wash, and there was some old, dried-out oil on the undercarriage. The exhaust is starting to rust. The third injector is slightly leaking. The vacuum pump seems to be failing, or there is a leak that I couldn't locate. I at least suspect this, because what I noticed was that I could brake with little brake assist at the beginning of the test drive. However, this improved somewhat, but the brake assist was still not fully functional. The flow wasn't as good as it could have been.

Now, I assume that this is due to the lack of vacuum, or a malfunctioning vacuum pump. If it's relevant: I was able to reach the 220 indicated on the tachometer during the test drive. However, the acceleration wasn't as it should have been. So, dass er nicht gar nicht gezogen hat, aber es war keineswegs brachial :-O

When I opened the hood while the engine was running after the test drive, I removed the oil filler cap and the oil dipstick, and I saw smoke coming out of both openings. I also heard a dull, but non-metallic 'clunking' sound. Since the oil separator appears to have never been replaced during this mileage, I believe that this is the cause of the existing overpressure in the engine, and that it is being exacerbated by the apparently defective vacuum pump or a vacuum leak.

Now, I'm really not sure what I should do. The price of 3000 euros is already very attractive, and I really like the Volvo, but are the problems actually related to the things I mentioned, or am I just misinterpreting things due to my limited knowledge :-/

Therefore, I am asking you this question because I know that you have more knowledge than I do, and I would be happy to hear from you. For every piece of advice, I am grateful icon_smile.gif

Greetings (and sorry for the lengthy message)

Hello!

Your problems actually sound like a weak vacuum pump.
If the vacuum pressure is too low, the brake booster and the VTG (Variable Torque Converter) adjustment will only function inadequately. The best option would naturally be to measure the vacuum.
If the vacuum pump fails in the V70 I, it would also cause a tapping sound similar to that of faulty hydraulic lifters, as this pump operates the lifter system. When the wing cell pump fails in the V70 II, it tends to make a rattling sound.
Start the engine and check if the VTG is fully engaged.
What is the year of manufacture and what is the engine code?

Hello,
with such a quick response, I wasn't expecting icon_wink.gif

Unfortunately, I can no longer test it. I have given the seller an assurance, and he will continue to drive the car until he receives his new one, and then he will sell it to me under the same conditions. Now he also lives quite a distance away from me.
But how exactly do I check the VTG at this motor? Sorry, that I was so clueless.

Engine code should be D5244T and the year of manufacture is 01/2002.
