Audi B6 1.8T rattles

The Audi belonging to my colleague, as can be seen in the attached video, is making a rattling noise. Upon initial inspection, the chain of the oil pump appears to have stretched, which is likely the reason why the warning light for low oil pressure is constantly illuminated.

The Audi was first registered in July 2003 and has a mileage of 137,000 km.

Now, let's get to the interesting questions:

- Since he continued driving, the primary question is whether the seals and rings could have survived without oil lubrication.
- How expensive and time-consuming is it to replace the chain?

A potential issue could be the turbocharger's bearing lubrication, especially if it has been operated for a period without oil pressure. However, it can be easily checked by removing the intake snorkel.

As for the rest, things might have been okay as long as some oil was still trickling out of the pump and the engine load wasn't too high. It really depends on how long it was driven like that.
My BRE (presumably a vehicle or engine) didn't suffer any oil-related damage, and the engine ran without the oil pump for a short period, with breaks, and under minimal load, totaling perhaps ~2 minutes.

I once had a customer with a BFB engine. The oil filter was almost completely clogged, and the oil pressure warning light came on. They still drove about 120 km (approximately 75 miles) to get home. I was only allowed to perform the oil and filter change. The engine still runs smoothly approximately 25,000 km later .
Of course, it varies from case to case.

I would start by removing the oil pan and checking the condition of the oil pump's strainer to see how much oil sludge is present.

The few kilometers driven, possibly with long-life oil, suggest that this issue is related.

The oil pan was already removed last year. No sludge. No clogged filter.

Statement from a mechanic: Either the oil pump and/or the crankshaft bearings are defective.

Due to the age and condition of the vehicle, it's not economically viable, as my colleague can't do the repairs himself.
