Hi,
I have owned an AFN engine control unit for several years, which has a socketed EEPROM.
I haven't used MSG for many years for various reasons, but I could potentially use it again now.

I know that the EPROM contains four different data sets: two for the AFN and two for the 1Z, each consisting of an original, unmodified data set and a tuning data set.

Here are my questions about it:
How do you change the data records using VAG-COM?

And, more importantly: How can I find out which dataset has which parameters (i.e., which one is for the AFN, and which one is the original)?

Unfortunately, I have lost all documentation related to that. icon_peinlich.gif

Thank you in advance...

Select control unit 01 (MSG).
Select function 07 (encoding).
Enter the number of the desired field.
If I remember correctly, having four gears wasn't common back then. Most cars had either one gear (automatic) or two gears (manual). Some also had three gears (four-wheel drive). I'm not aware of any cars with four gears, but that doesn't mean they didn't exist.

The safest option: Read the EEPROM.
Alternatively: Compare measured values such as boost pressure, fuel injection quantity, and injection timing. However, since the measured values themselves can be inaccurate, one could also be misled by them.

If possible, check with the creator of the chip, if there is still contact information available.

Greetings.
Guste.

Thank you, Guste.

That would be too simple, unfortunately, I no longer remember who burned the EPROM for me. It was someone from this forum, but it must have been over 10 years ago icon_redface.gif.

Maybe it was only 3 datasets after all, I don't quite remember anymore.
"At the very least, there are two 1Z tuning files and one AFN tuning file. I'm not sure if there was also a standard AFN data set included... hmm..."

I'm already familiar with the coding for automatic and manual transmissions. What wasn't clear to me was that different tuning packages use this memory addressing within the EPROM.
I don't have automatic features; everything is controlled by switches.

Do you know anyone who could program a new EPROM from these datasets?
I would like to have AFN Standard and Tuning installed there.
I also still have the original AFN-MSG file that can be used to read the original dataset.

Regards,
Jens.
