Hello,

I had to replace the engine control unit (ECU) in my car (TDI-AFN in a Golf 3). It used to have a 028145702DX, and now it has a 028145702GN. My old ECU was chipped by a tuner, and I'm not sure if I can transfer that chip to the new ECU. What do you think?

No. The control units have different ASICs.

Best regards,
Rudi

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

The part numbers you posted look like a mix of turbocharger parts.

Sure, here's the translation:

Okay, I seem to have made a mistake in the line with the part numbers, sorry! The correct ones are:

028 906 021 FQ (old)
028 906 021 GN (new)

The part number you suspected, 028 906 021 DF, is therefore also incorrect!

Regarding the corrected part numbers I provided, is the ASIC also different, or is there still hope? The new control unit comes from a Passat 3B.

FQ uses the same ASIC as DF, so it's not compatible.
Even though the GN comes from a Passat, it has the Audi entry-level components.
The other levels are expected to be different from those of the G3.
Besides the ASIC, other components might not fit either.

Best regards,
Rudi

Okay, thank you for your help! I'm now going to consider whether I should replace my engine control unit again, possibly returning the currently new one (which I received like that icon_smile.gif), or having the current engine control unit re-chipped, which is also not exactly cheap.

But in principle, there's nothing stopping me from using a Passat engine control unit (ECU) in my Golf, right?

Basically, certain things aren't going to work the way they're supposed to.
You could possibly swap the STG with Guste - why don't you ask him?

Best regards,
Rudi

I once searched for a user with the nickname "Guste" in this forum, but I couldn't find anyone with that name! Could the nickname be spelled differently? Or maybe it's my fault, and I just couldn't find it.

He is, as far as I know, called 'guste100', and he has the rank of 'Pro Mechanic', in case Rudi is referring to him (which I strongly assume, since I don't know any other 'guste'). icon_wink.gif

Okay, I was only looking for the nickname without the "100", so thanks for the information! I'll talk to him about it, and I hope he doesn't mind.

Guste100 is correct. Wildcard (*) rules icon_wink.gif.
