Airbag Control Module Replacement: Error 00589

Hello everyone,
bei meinem T4 war das Airbagsteuergerät defekt jedenfalls gemäss VAG-COM. Fehler 65535 und 00532. Fehler 00532 konnte ich beheben, Kabelbruch am Anschluss der Lima. Fehlercodes konnte ich zwar per VAG-COM löschen aber kamen immer wieder. Da fiel mir ein das mein Bruder einen Golf 3 1,9 TD fährt und er das gleiche Airbag Steuergerät drin haben müßte. Also das ausgebaut und die Teilenummer verglichen. Beide Steuergeräte sind identisch. Teile Nr. 6N0909603E und im Golf waren keine Fehler abgespeichert. Also in den Bully eingebaut und angeschlossen. Jetzt habe ich Fehlermeldung 00589 Widerstand Beifahrerairbag zu hoch. Das dumme ist nur der T4 hat gar keinen Beifahrerairbag. Ich habe deshalb den Beifahrerairbag deaktiviert aber der Fehler geht nicht zu löschen. Kann mir jemand helfen wie ich den Fehler löschen kann. Das müßte doch eigentlich mit codieren des Steuergerätes gehen nur habe ich keinen Login Code. Und wenn ja wie muß ich es umcodieren? Weis advice?
Okay, it's a TF 1.9L ABL engine, manufactured in 1996. As I mentioned, the airbag control units are identical.

- Adaptation (10)
- Select channel (01).
- Adjustment value (00001; 00000 would be used to reactivate).

I've already tried that, but the error persists. I suspect it's expecting a resistor from the passenger airbag. I also know which wires on the connector to the control unit are involved (5 & 6), but I don't know what resistance value I need to connect between them. I seem to recall hearing something about 2.5 ohms; can anyone confirm that?

Officially, when deactivating the airbag (in addition to deactivating it in the control unit),...
It was disconnected and replaced with a resistor, specifically part number 1H0 998 521 B or 3B0 998 521 B (depending on the vehicle's VIN).
Cost of resistors: approximately 30€.

Or 0.05 Euros, even at the electronics store called Conrad... and then a small piece of tape. This is not meant to be a guide for tinkering with sensitive, safety-critical systems, but the price from VW is certainly outrageous.

P.S.: If you still plan to do it (which I don't recommend), try 2.2 or 2.7 ohms, and solder the resistor securely so that it cannot come loose. Good insulation is essential.

If you want to know the OEM resistance value, order the part from VW, measure it with a multimeter, and then let me know the value (but check beforehand if that's possible).

Thank you for the tips, and please don't misunderstand. I don't want to "tinker" with it. The problem is that the car definitely doesn't have a passenger airbag, and the Golf's control unit is coded for 2 (driver and passenger airbag), which is why there's a resistor in place. VW wants 99.12 € to recode it, and at that price, I could almost buy a new one. I'll go there on Saturday and let you know what happens.

To my shame, I haven't had the chance to install the resistors yet. It's planned for the Pentecost weekend. I'll report back then. The control unit cannot be reprogrammed; the only option is to connect the resistors in between. I'm from the Hanover area.
