Hi,
Has anyone ever replaced the timing belt pulley with a different one? I have a round timing belt pulley installed on my AVQ engine. I plan to install a different engine control unit (ECU) soon, specifically one from a BXE engine. When comparing the installed parts, I noticed that the BXE engine uses an oval timing belt pulley.
Since the BXE engine is slightly newer, but otherwise largely similar to the AVQ in key components like the camshaft, cylinder head, crankshaft, injector pump elements, EGR valve, and turbocharger, I've noticed that the crankshaft pulley for the timing belt is oval-shaped. Apparently, this oval-shaped pulley is supposed to be gentler on the timing belt and contribute to smoother engine operation.
Could I possibly replace my round timing pulley with an oval one?
