Okay, so I don't have a DWA (door warning device), and therefore I chose the horn to sound via the central electrical system using the "tone when locking" function, which is illegal.
In the on-board setup menu, I found a new option in the "Close" menu that wasn't there before the VCDS action: an item called "Warning Tone," which I could enable by checking a box.
The honking is really loud and annoying, so I've started using the visual signal instead.
