Skoda dashboard/instrument cluster faulty

Hello everyone.
I'm new here and have a question. I have a Skoda Octavia II Facelift 2.0 TDI 140HP CFHC. My instrument cluster is almost completely malfunctioning. The lighting is almost gone, there's an error in the mileage field, and the needles are behaving erratically. Nothing seems to be working correctly or is properly synchronized anymore.
I removed the speedometer, part number 1Z0920843M. Now my question: Do I have to install the exact same part, or are there compatible alternatives? For example, parts with "S" or "Q" at the end? I also know that everything will need to be reprogrammed. I have a very affordable workshop that can help with that. Please help. Thank you.

There is a TPI (Technical Problem Instruction) for this issue. Your error pattern is known. According to TPI, the wiring harness and connectors need to be inspected.

If everything appears to be in order here, it might be a good idea to send the instrument cluster in for repair. Repairs typically cost around €250 at reputable companies.

If the AI (Antenna Interface Unit) is replaced, the WFS (Wireless Front System) needs to be adjusted, and the firmware for Kessy needs to be updated.

I cannot definitively say which alternative part number is compatible without knowing the vehicle's specific configuration and VIN.

A new AI system costs approximately €900 net.

Thank you for the quick response. The friendly person also quoted me a price of around 1000 euros. That's just for the part, net. I could get a used one with a warranty for 200 euros. It would be a 1Z0920843S. Here's my VIN: TMBHE61ZXB2137989, manufactured in 12/2011, CFHC, CR 2.0 TDI, 8004 ADX. I'll get the wfs and Kessy adjustments done at my usual mechanic's shop. "M" index is still the most current part number.

The PR codes associated with index "S" are not correct.


With a used AI system, you also don't know how long it will last. Therefore, I would advise you to have the repair done by a reputable engine control unit (ECU) repair service.

You can provide your error code and error description in advance, and you will receive a cost estimate. You can reinstall the AI system yourself after the repair and start driving again.

You will definitely spend significantly less than you would at a workshop or buying replacement parts.

The decision is up to you .
