Hello forum,

The engine is making a noticeable knocking sound when accelerating (even when the engine is warm). The oil was changed to fresh oil to rule out diesel fuel contamination as a cause of the knocking sound.
The workshop replaced the injectors for cylinders 2 and 3.

Fuel injection deviation: Cylinder 1: 64 µs.
Fuel injection deviation: Cylinder 1: -44 µs.
Fuel injection deviation: Cylinder 1: -44 µs.

Is it only a matter of replacing the injector for cylinder 1? Or is there more trouble to be expected (I can't quite understand the -44µs... within what tolerances are the values specified in µs considered acceptable)?

What was the problem, besides the hammering? Were the IMA correction values entered after the injectors were replaced?

You could get a better understanding if you could provide us with a graph of the extended measurement data, similar to the one attached (this is a 1.6L R4 engine).

I don't understand. I only know how to enter and check correction values using the adjustment channels, but not through the encoding process. To my knowledge, the selection process only involves checking boxes and using list values.

Hi,
I had already suspected that. It appears that the available measurement data from the engine control unit in the 1.2L TDI provides relatively little information, similar to the 1.6L TDI, compared to the 2.0L TDI.
The injection quantity deviations (in time units) are likely idle correction values. In the DDYA data I analyzed, the values drop to zero when the accelerator is pressed.
The injection duration, with a constant rail pressure, is a measure of the injection quantity. When you compare the deviations with the injection duration, you see deviations in the range of 10%. For us, this has been acceptable and within the tolerance limits so far. Cylinder 1 is just a bit weaker.
Here are some additional things you can do: measure the total return flow and the return flow of each individual injector. This might reveal an anomaly. To do this, you should consult a repair manual for the engine. Is there anything from VW available at Erwin (siehe Fehlerdatenbank)?
Otherwise, a good Bosch service center might have more options for checking the engine while it's running.
Does listening to each individual cylinder make a difference?

Hi,
Let me describe it based on my experience here. Deviations in the idle speed control of more than approximately 1.5 mg/stroke (with an injection amount of 5 mg/stroke) are considered a problem. Converted to time, this means that with an injection duration of 500 microseconds, the actual injection time is 150 microseconds.
However, the idle noise isn't your problem; it's the noise under load. Therefore, I'm repeating my comment from the previous post.
