VW Auxiliary Heater with Standby Heater - Not Functioning

The Seat Alhambra 7N does not have a built-in auxiliary heating function.

The error memory indicated a short circuit in the temperature sensor, which I replaced. I was able to clear the error codes, but the function still doesn't work.

I can start the auxiliary heater in workshop mode, and there are still no error codes stored. The heater is unlocked; it's a Webasto system with a cable kit and a remote control. The ventilation system turns on, but the water pump and the heater do not.

Does anyone have any ideas? What should come out of pin 1 on the cable that connects to the heating device? It's coming from inside.

I'm trying to figure out how to use your auxiliary heater.

The first thing that comes to mind spontaneously when there are no errors stored and the ventilation turns on is the summer mode!

Is the system set to recirculation mode / summer operation? Then the heating won't turn on either.

Otherwise, I would appreciate it if you could tell me more about the car. Ideally, just use the automatic scan.

The flame sensor is located on pin 1.

If the error memory shows no entries after a failed attempt to start the heater, it is likely that no start attempt actually occurred.

Has the auxiliary heater ever functioned as a standing heater?

Not that some smart person installed the auxiliary heating cable kit, but they forgot to properly flash the auxiliary heater.
There are also ways to do it without flashing the device, but these methods use an intermediary electronic component and, for example, the Webasto clock to control it.

What exactly is installed?

As a pre-heater, it starts (if nothing else is configured) at a temperature below 5°C when the engine is started.

And what does the aforementioned summer mode say?

Depending on the year of manufacture, it can be adjusted either in the MFA's "STH" menu or in the "STH" menu of the radio/navigation system.

That would perfectly match your error. If the driver has set the system to summer mode, then it will now behave properly when you press the STH button. It is true that it doesn't make sense in the winter, but the software doesn't care .

Okay, our technician says it's a T90 (D90) radio remote control installed. When you turn on the transmitter, you see the three bars on the display. What we've just noticed is that on the receiver, the 8-pin connector has the yellow cable plugged into pin 1, but could it possibly be that it should be plugged into pin 2? It's not very easy to see. But the customer, who is new, said that the heating had worked before, but who knows if that's true or if someone else has already tampered with it?

Okay, I've checked again, the cable is connected to PIN 2, and the heater is set to "heat." I double-checked both to be sure. I'm also not sure if the auxiliary heater kicks in when the engine starts, because it's constantly too warm. Does the auxiliary heater also work based on the coolant sensor? However, it does work in workshop mode. I was even thinking about ordering a coolant temperature sensor and spraying it with freezing spray.

If it starts up in diagnostic mode, then it should be working correctly.

Otherwise, it would terminate and record an error.

Can you hear or feel the auxiliary water pump running?


Then I can think of two more possibilities.

1.) Rainer, did you install the software correctly? Is the auxiliary heater upgrade complete?

2) Which retrofit kit was installed? Was it an original Webasto kit or an aftermarket accessory? The accessory kits are available with a tilt switch for summer mode! In this mode, only the ventilation function is activated.

Have you checked if there's an additional toggle switch installed near the fuse box?

You can also bypass the connector for the temperature sensor; if you do that, it should start.

Okay, I just disassembled the water pump and discovered that it doesn't start automatically.

Does the auxiliary heater run automatically during normal operation, or only in diagnostic mode? Are the auxiliary heater, water pump, and temperature sensor working properly now?

What exactly does the remote control do?
Does the fan turn on, or what's happening?

How does the LED on the remote control behave?

The vehicle was delivered with an auxiliary heater - if it works, it does what it's supposed to do.

Then the source of the error can be found in the retrofitted parts.

Were you looking for the toggle switch? Can we rule him out?

An accessory kit may include an additional control unit within the wiring harness. Is there such a control unit?

Is it definitely an organic product? Webasto installation kit?

Which pin does the yellow cable connect to on the radio receiver?

Is there a timer?

Do you have the diagnostic software from Webasto?

Thank you for everything. The heater had a defect in the control unit, which is strange. I now received a used one and installed it. Then, following your instructions, I configured it with VCDS, and it started up immediately. It seems like the electronics on the old HG unit have no connection to pin 2, because it's behaving as if it doesn't want to turn on at all.
