Engine control unit cannot be coded for manual transmission

The engine control unit (ECU) EDC17C46 (03L 906 018 RG), with engine code CFGC, cannot be re-programmed from DSG (dual-clutch transmission) to manual transmission. While I can select the manual transmission option in the coding assistant, I receive an error message when confirming the coding: "Coding not accepted! Error 31: Invalid value range!"

Unfortunately, I can't tell you that. I didn't realize that the transmission of the donor vehicle was so important; I would need to do some research first.

It appears that the software version was only available with DSG.

With software version 03L 906 018 RK, the problem is solved.

After installing a used engine control unit, I'm now experiencing a similar problem. The coding in the engine control unit is 00000000. When I try to change the coding value (regardless of the value), I always get the message "Invalid value range."

I'm also experiencing similar issues with the ABS and parking brake control units, which are also incorrectly coded.

You need to check which coding options are allowed for the software version of your control unit, meaning which transmissions/engine features, etc., were originally available. You can only code what was originally offered. If you need a different coding, the easiest solution would be to purchase a control unit with the appropriate software version. The last two letters are crucial.

The problem is twofold: firstly, there is no more "original" control unit available, and secondly, the coding cannot be changed at all. For example, I cannot even change the coding to indicate that an "airbag is installed"...

You must enter a completely valid encoding, not just individual features.
Even if you don't have the original, you need a version with software that covers all the existing features; otherwise, it simply won't work.
