Hello,
First of all, a big thank you to the forum and its moderators.
I was able to answer some of my questions by doing some research.
Now, regarding my problem:
I recently discovered that my Passat TDI AFN is losing coolant, and I couldn't figure out where it was going. After some time, I realized that the coolant was being blown out of the expansion tank ---> I suspect a faulty head gasket.
Then I disassembled the AFN (auxiliary unit) and replaced the timing chain cover (including the timing belt and pulleys).
In my case, the seal on the intermediate shaft was also leaking.
After the motor was inspected, taking into account the OT markings (KW, dowel pin in the ESP, and ruler).
Once it was reassembled, it started up again and seems to be running well.
Just in terms of the sound, it's now a bit harsher than before.
This morning I took my car to an independent garage to have the injection timing checked. The Bosch diagnostic program showed the following values:
Fuel temperature: 47 degrees. Injection timing: 3.4 degrees.
According to the workshop, it's optimal.
But something doesn't seem right, as the performance isn't quite there. The acceleration is very sluggish from around 160 km/h, and the top speed is about 180 km/h, whereas it used to be 195 km/h.
Can someone confirm the values?
What else could influence the performance?
Is it normal, as VW claims, for the head gasket to be a wear-and-tear part that needs to be replaced between 150,000 km and 200,000 km?
Before disassembly, I noticed that VW probably didn't do a perfect job during the last timing belt replacement. The crankshaft (KW) and exhaust camshaft (ESP) markings aligned correctly, but the camshaft was a few degrees off. The straight edge could only be inserted when the TDC (Top Dead Center) marking on the crankshaft was no longer visible.
Could this have had any consequences, or could it explain my current problem?
Best regards from the north.
