Hello everyone,

I recently replaced my glow plug elements icon_rolleyes.gif, and because I'm a lazy person, I rotated the motor at the camshaft wheel. Unfortunately, the 5 minutes it took to remove the glow plugs was too much for me icon_rolleyes.gif.
I always had in mind that the belt shouldn't slip, because the tensioner might give way, and I was keeping an eye on that.
Later, I had the clever thought that it might not be entirely wise to turn the engine over using the timing belt }.
Do you think he might be injured? For example, from an overextension?
The tensioner should have been unaffected by that, right?

Best regards,
Tobi.

Hi,

First of all, the spark plugs cannot be removed in 5 minutes.
Secondly, you don't even need that.
Thirdly, you adjust the tensioner, for example, by turning the wheel for the ribbed belt, and you can use the internal hexagon screws for support.
Fourthly, if you don't want to do any of that, you can push the car forward or backward in the highest gear.
And fifthly, only you can see and know if you've messed something up.

I can barely push it forward even without engaging a gear, and then I also have to keep an eye on the slide levers at the same time icon_neutral.gif. Of course, I could have tried it.

Well, with the spark plugs disconnected, the additional load on the belt would have been negligible. I would argue that the engine turning over without compression offers less resistance than the valve train.

The question is whether a belt like that can handle it, or if it's likely to be completely ruined after such an event, especially considering it only has 10,000 km on it.

Greetings.
Tobi.

The tensioner probably didn't care.
According to the manufacturer's recommendations (and those of other knowledgeable people), the described method puts excessive strain on the timing belt.
