Hello, unfortunately, I have to ask another question. For the past two weeks, my eldest son's A4 (Cabrio with V6 BDG engine) has been leaking water, somewhere at the back of the engine. It was initially completely unclear, and since I'm currently using crutches due to an accident, I couldn't properly inspect it. Now, I finally managed to get underneath the car and saw a thin stream of water between the engine and the exhaust flex pipe on the driver's side. It appears that a frost plug has rusted through, which isn't a major problem. You can't reach it from below at all. So, I removed the vacuum pump from above, and then you can, although with great difficulty, reach it with your fingers, but you can't see it.
I'm afraid that to replace the spark plug, I actually have to remove the entire engine - for a 1€ part.
Is there a better method? Has anyone perhaps done this before on an A4 car? It seems to happen from time to time.

Cute little hearts on the page today icon_smile.gif. A Valentine's Day gimmick? Original idea!

Hi,
I already did this years ago on my old Audi 80, but the engine was removed at the time. The problem was also caused by rust.
It should be possible to fit it even with the motor installed, but you'll have to remove quite a few parts. Then, simply tap (only) one edge of the plug with a brass pin, and it will tip over. It's best to replace all the plugs at the same time. Measure the insertion depth of the plugs beforehand. When inserting them, apply even pressure to the edge, for example, with a socket.

"Please take a picture that clearly shows where he is sitting."

I have a disassembled AKN lying around; I might see what I can do with it.

hello again,
@HerbertViewing profile: Herbert, the tip about the thorn is already helpful! But was that on the Audi 80 with the V6 engine? Or possibly on the 80 model you mentioned with the 1Z engine? It's probably not an issue with that one, but with the V6 model in the rear...
@Rüdi: I wanted to take the picture yesterday, but it was too late. I need to remember to do it tomorrow. If I can even get back there...

Hold the phone up and try to see something, possibly using a mirror.

Hello, it unfortunately took a bit longer because I wasn't able to get to the car due to illness.
I once tried to get a picture of it, but with little success. In the first two pictures from the bottom, you can see the freeze plug near the exhaust manifold. From above, I can't really get a clear picture because I'm so close due to the lack of space, which makes the image blurry. The exhaust pipe and the coolant pipe are almost in front of it (3rd picture from the top), and there's barely enough room to fit a finger between them – without seeing anything. The plug seems to be in the cylinder head, not in the engine block. A thin stream of liquid came out, so I suspect a hole caused by rust. A loose plug would likely cause a wider stream.
I'm afraid you can only access that area if you can move the engine forward at least 15 cm. I'm still hoping for better suggestions...
Best regards,
Andreas
