Hello everyone,

A few months ago, I bought a Seat Leon 1M with an ARL engine. Because I'm experiencing increasing problems with the car, including oil leaks from the turbocharger, I wanted to check the boost pressure. During this process, I noticed a torque reading of 410 Nm. I'm not very familiar with these values, but that seemed quite high to me. After doing some research, I came across this thread:

I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.

Now my suspicion is that my car was chipped without me being informed of it before the purchase.
I attempted to create a log to verify the series values for a blower angle of 26 degrees and a charging pressure of 1.5 bar.
Could someone with expertise take a look and confirm that these are not the original values?

That would be the reason for me to withdraw from the purchase agreement.

Thank you and best regards.
André.

Hello,

If the values in the image are correct, I would describe it as a bad tuning.

Too bad, the engine deserves better and usually holds up very well even when tuned.

The torque limitation via the transmission is fixed to an arbitrarily chosen maximum value. The target boost pressure is increased and not original. The actual boost pressure is too low, which could be due to a leak in the intercooler/intake manifold, a faulty EGR valve, or incorrect data.

With these settings, it should produce a significant amount of smoke under full throttle, assuming the indicated amounts are actually being injected.

Best regards, Rainer.

However, in order to successfully challenge a purchase agreement, it is necessary to have a statement from an expert that proves the claim.

And to prove that, you also need to demonstrate that the seller was aware of it.

In 2011, I bought a tuned A4 Quattro from ***. When I was checking something on the MSG (presumably referring to a vehicle information system), I noticed an *** seal on it. I doubt that the previous owners knew about this modification.

It gave me the advantage of being able to sell it for double the purchase price six years later.

Thank you for the analysis! I was afraid of that.
He doesn't produce any soot because it has an HJS City particulate filter installed. However, drivers following behind report that it smells extremely bad.
It could be because the turbo is worn out. There's always some oil in the cooling system, but it doesn't have noticeable oil consumption. However, when it's been sitting for a while, it produces a significant cloud of mostly white smoke, possibly with a hint of blue, and noticeable fluctuations in engine speed during cold starts, lasting about 10 seconds. After that, there's nothing more, and once the engine is warm, it runs smoothly.

He was purchased from a dealer, and he had previously been there for an inspection related to my concerns. The result was "everything is normal for a 1.9 TDI; it runs smoothly with no errors in the engine control unit."
You're right, proving that can be difficult. I'll talk to the legal insurance company again.
It's a real shame, especially considering it only has "just" 170,000 kilometers and is in excellent condition, particularly inside.

An oil film in automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is normal.

...and depending on where the air intake is located and how the airflow is routed, some amount of condensate can accumulate over time. Some engines are able to suck up this liquid during a full-throttle acceleration with sufficient RPM and corresponding airflow, and burn it off instantly.

I have a car (a turbocharged gasoline engine) where this exact issue is reproducible, and drivers who were previously tailgating suddenly increase their distance.

As I said, the burden of proof is on you, and I wouldn't file a formal complaint (RSV) over a car of minimal value. You would need an expert opinion...and realistically, expect a court decision at the first instance level in 2 to 3 years.

You might consider getting a used car if you're otherwise happy with your current one... perhaps look into sourcing an original MSG unit and having it installed.
