Strange noise when starting?

Hello,

For quite some time now, I've been hearing a strange, screeching noise from my Golf III TDI (manufactured in 1995) when starting it!

Once or twice a week, and always the same noise (has been the same for over 2 years)
Temperature and humidity have no effect (the scratching sound remains constant).
No loose belt, it sounds like a bad bearing (maybe the starter)!

It's only audible for a very short time (1 second) after the start!
My KM Stand: 135,000!


A tip would be helpful on how to contain the error!

. . . but it only occurs for me every few months.

I'm currently content with the idea that the occasional condensation on the LiMa belt could cause it to slip and squeak, until it evaporates due to friction.

My tenant also has a G3 Lim 1Z and he had the same problem - starter failed - problem solved.
