VAG-COM: Reset Service Interval - How To

Hello,

A friend lent me his laptop with VAG-COM (not the DOS version) and adapter so I could reset my service interval display (Passat wagon, year 1998, engine code AFN, blue illumination, no navigation system, no central display). According to a repair manual printed for me, the channels in the instrument cluster should be 10, 11, and 12, which need to be accessed with the original VW diagnostic tool (blue version) and then programmed with the remaining mileage.
VAG-COM zeigt mir unter 'Anpassen' aber nur Kanäle bis max. 9 an. Die Kanäle 06 und 07 stehen auf '0'. Wahrscheinlich muss ich diese auf '15' setzen, für weiter 15.000km bis zum nächsten Inspektions- und Ölwechselintervall. Ich kann den Wert auch im unteren Feld auf '15' setzen, drücke dann auf 'testen' und die Schaltfläche 'speichern' wird dann aktiv. Drücke ich dann 'speichern', werde ich gefragt, ob ich das möchte, natürlich bestätige ich das, doch der Wert wird nicht übernommen. Was maWhat did I do wrong?

Do I need to log into the instrument cluster first? There's a 'login' option. When I select that, VAG-COM asks for a password that I don't know. Supposedly, this password is supposed to be in the repair manual; however, I can't find anything about it in my excerpt from the manual.

If anyone knows how to reset the ads with this equipment and has a login code, I would be very grateful for any assistance.

... there's actually a much simpler way to do it - without using VCDS (formerly known as VagCom).
Turn off the ignition - hold down the trip reset button - turn on the ignition - then rotate left or right to select whether it's for a service reminder or an oil change - press again - that's it.

it is also stated in the operating manual.

Yes, I've already read that. However, since I did that, instead of the 'oil' message, it now displays 'insp.' Unfortunately, this message can no longer be reset using the 'offline mode.'
