Hi.
I'm almost afraid to ask, but I really couldn't find anything by searching.
My turbocharger wastegate solenoid valve is rattling, and the colder it is, the louder it gets (sometimes it's even audible from the outside at idle!!!).
Unfortunately, I don't have an LDA yet, and my OBD2 system isn't ready either, so I don't know if I'll be able to achieve the 0.9 bar LD.
Can valves generally make a rattling noise, or should they actually be silent?
(I'm surprised that the AGR and VTG (of the AFN engine) use so-called pressure transducers and no "flutter valves".)
Should I just (temporarily) remove the 35 EUR, or should I delete it completely?

Hello,
I would first go to the hardware store and get a pressure gauge up to 1.5 bar. Then, a few hoses and a Y-connector, and the LDA is ready!
It costs less than 35 euros and pays for itself repeatedly (see the technical article)!
Best regards,

Hi.
The clicking sound of the valves is initially "normal" because they are controlled by pulsed DC voltage.
Apparently, it's dampened by design in its new state, so that the rattling is only audible when something has changed, which in turn could indicate wear or defects (although I don't have any practical experience with the 1Z model).
The differences between 1Z (and other wastegate turbocharger) and VTG (variable turbine geometry) boost pressure solenoid valves arise from the fact that the 1Z valve must control overpressure, while the VTG valves control vacuum.
As a result, it seems that the vacuum valves are less prone to rattling than the wastegate components. But don't ask me why... Gruß Ulf

Yes, of course! That's why my AGR also has a valve that's similar to the "VTG" system.
I think I'm just going to throw this thing away, even though it will probably be "35 euros down the drain"...

My new one (bought directly from the dealer) rattled just as much as the old one, which probably had the parts installed from the very beginning, maybe even with 200,000 km already on them. You mean that rattling sound, like when you put a small steel ball (like from a ball bearing) into a plastic container and shake it vigorously?

I mean the rattling sound that starts immediately when you turn on the "ignition."
It's coming from the valve that's located directly next to the diesel filter (also in the Passat).
If you hold the valve and adjust it like that, it will improve.
