Hello,
As described above, the display sometimes flashes. It either turns off on its own, or I have to restart the engine. Apart from the display, there are no other noticeable issues. The error diagnosis system doesn't detect anything. How much can one rely on the car's error diagnosis?
It's a 1994 Volkswagen Golf 3 TDI with almost 300,000 kilometers on the odometer.
Greetings.
To everyone.

Hello,
I'm just saying, if something blinks, there's probably an error code stored in the system's memory.
Next time, drive directly to a different workshop to have the error codes read.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello,
I read in another forum that a flashing preheating lamp can indicate a problem with the brake light switch, a faulty third brake light, or that both brake lights are not working.
For some TDIs, this may also trigger the limp-home mode.
Best regards,
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
'Richi' is a German word that means 'request'. It can also be used as a verb, meaning 'to request'.
Here are some examples of how to use the word 'Richi' in a sentence:
* Ich habe einen Richi für ein neues Auto. (I have a request for a new car.)
* Ich möchte einen Richi stellen. (I would like to make a request.)
* Bitte Richi. (Please request.)
I hope this helps!

Hello Richi,
And you can find the exact same information here (posts, articles, error database, etc.) if you want.
if you were to only use the search function. Tschüss

I just wanted to give someone else a suggestion!
And here we go again, someone using the search function. I know what it's like to be a newbie in a forum, and I also know what it's like to be a long-time member, but what you 'snobs' are doing with the search function is just going too far.
While it also annoys me when newcomers don't use the search function, I just had to get it off my chest.
Surely, one can still offer a helpful tip to make searching easier, and it doesn't always require writing a whole novel to do so.
Okay, hopefully I can stay here a little longer .
Best regards,

Hi, Michael II:
I'm starting to think that the hints about the 'search function' are almost reaching neurotic proportions!
Two days ago, when we were talking about this little trinket, I still supported you.
But where does it end if EVERY single comment that has ever been posted on a topic is being criticized?
That no longer has anything to do with the mentality (often found in politics) that 'everything has already been said, it's just that not everyone has said it yet!'

Hi,
I think that, instead, two different mindsets are becoming dominant here:
'Almost every new user asks questions that have already been answered extensively in this forum. What else can we do but refer them to the search function?'
This has already been done, and the thread wasn't closed immediately. Or are you only planning to discuss old topics here?
2. Some newcomers feel the need to give advice, even though their technical knowledge is rather limited. However, this clearly goes against the quality of the forum. As has been pointed out repeatedly: one should only post an answer if they are certain about the topic.
So, in this particular case, everything proceeded absolutely correctly, or was someone impolite or something like that?
I have a suggestion for you, Markus:
Rainer, Michael II, Bertil... you all spend quite a bit of time writing technical articles and updating the databases. Why don't you dedicate some of your time to answering questions from new users? Often, a link to the relevant thread or article should be sufficient. And if we knew that someone was handling those questions, others might refrain from asking, and we would have fewer discussions.
Wouldn't that help everyone?

Hi,
1. Almost every newcomer asks questions that have been discussed extensively here, about 90% of the time. What else can you do but refer them to the search function?
This has already been done, and the thread wasn't closed immediately. Or are you only planning to discuss old topics here?
I also see it as a gift. You should have been able to tell that from my previous posts.
2. Some newcomers feel the need to give advice, even though they have relatively limited expertise. However, this clearly goes against the quality of the forum. It has already been pointed out several times: only post something as an answer when you are certain about it.
Objection, Your Honor.
At this point, things become difficult, at least from my perspective. And, of course, I always write from my own point of view. I believe that a thread can certainly have a discussion-like quality.
So, in this current case, everything proceeded absolutely correctly, or was someone impolite or something like that?
Did anyone act rudely, or did I claim that they did?
Furthermore, I've been here long enough to appreciate Michael II's expertise. My intention wasn't to criticize him in that regard – I wouldn't even be able to do that.
I believe that impudent or nonsensical questions, like the ones that have been appearing more frequently lately, should continue to be prevented.
The 'attempt' to offer help could sometimes be a bit more generous.
That's what I was talking about.
Why don't you dedicate some of your time to answering all the newbie questions?
No, I won't.
I've been doing this occasionally for a while now, even when dealing with familiar problems. I'll continue to handle things this way.
Further above, I also mentioned that I share your opinion on many issues, especially regarding questions from new members.

Hi,
mal folgendes. Or what?
There will always be problems with the long-time users who know the forum inside and out, and those who join later.
Our database of errors is slowly starting to cover the entire spectrum of possible (and impossible) errors.
If a beginner asks additional questions, referencing an older article, I'm sure no one would object.
"He who does not ask remains ignorant." An addition to that: "He who does not read is even more ignorant." Gruß Bertil

To get back to the topic...
The indicator light may also blink if the brake light switch is defective.
However, this then results in an error message similar to 'implausible signal from brake light switch'...
A glowing filament shouldn't be possible without an error message.
Even sporadic errors will be stored for a certain period of time.
