Hello everyone!

Does anyone know if car manufacturers fine-tune the EDC (Electronic Damping Control) parameters for each specific country where the vehicle is delivered, or if the software is always calibrated to the most unfavorable conditions?

Specifically, I recently saw comparative data for different diesel fuels (German summer diesel, US diesel, Swedish diesel, etc.) and was able to identify some significant differences.
That's why it's conceivable that, for example, vehicles intended for the US market might undergo electronic adjustments.

Who knows?

Regards,
Alex.

Hi,

To the best of my knowledge (and I believe this came from an older thread on this forum, which I can no longer find), the settings are the same in all countries, and are adjusted to the worst possible conditions.

That's also where part of the potential comes from that chip tuners exploit, isn't it?
(Please correct or enthusiastically agree!)

For America, there are also other engines with different model codes. Things will be quite different there...

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"Supplement:"
For America, there are
no} PD engines, but only the "older" VP engines (and only the 90 horsepower engine).

The reason for this is the terribly poor quality of diesel fuel in the USA. US diesel contains up to 1200 ppm of sulfur (in the EU, it's >50 ppm), and solid particles can be as large as 3µ. This is not compatible with common rail or pump-injector injection systems.
There's likely a specific engine control unit (ECU) map for this low-quality fuel.

California is the only US state with extremely strict emission regulations (similar to EU2) for diesel passenger cars, but none of the TDIs can meet these regulations with the current diesel technology. Therefore, in California, you either have to forgo the TDI or purchase it in a neighboring state. Starting in 2006 or 2007, all diesel vehicles are supposed to meet a standard that is even stricter than our EU4 standard – and yet, nothing is supposed to be changed about the diesel itself. Cheers to that.
