Hello fellow mechanics!
"Does anyone know how compatible the different types of transmissions are with each other?"
When you browse the GKB parts lists, you can find, for example, identical transmissions that were used in both the Volkswagen Golf and the Audi A3.
Can the gearboxes be used interchangeably, meaning can any TDI gearbox from a Golf be installed in an A3 and vice versa?
I would really appreciate it if the knowledge database of this website could be expanded to include information about the different gear ratios (at least for the TDI transmissions). This would allow people to better understand the different configurations of the transmissions!
Specifically, I'm wondering if there is a suitable 6-speed transmission available for my AGR engine that would allow me to significantly reduce the RPM level and maintain a higher speed on long distances (e.g., highway driving).
Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Hello.
The combination is beautifully done (like almost everything in the forum), but I'm looking for information about the automatic transmission.
And that's exactly what I'm looking for: the translation of "DMX Getriebe."
Thank you.

Hello everyone!
I think there might be a small misunderstanding here.
Selbstverständlich habe ich zuerst die Suchfunktion bemüht und mir auch die o.g. Links angesehen. SPlease provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English.
Quote: | | When you browse the GKB lists, you can find, for example, identical transmissions that were used in both the Golf and the Audi A3. |
However, I haven't yet found a list that specifies the translations for each gear setting and the axle drive type. That was exactly what my question was about!
I also wanted to know if all TDI transmissions are mechanically compatible with each other, meaning whether I can install any transmission on any TDI engine. Or has the motor flange/clutch flange been revised multiple times across different engine generations, which would significantly limit the options?
Furthermore, the spacing of the drive shaft stubs must be such that they fit properly when the engine-transmission unit is installed (and are not too short or too long).
Darauf zielte meine eigentliche Frage ab. Ich fürchte, dass ich mich nicht klar genug ausgedrückt hatte. Sorry. MIt's my fault!

Hello MichaelII:
Please excuse me very much !!!
I was really blind as a bat today (or even had beefsteak tomatoes on my eyes).
I completely missed the most important link on the page with the product catalogs.
Ich habe immer gleichnach unten gescrollt, wo die Zuordnungstabellen zwischen MKB und GKB standen. Echt doof von mir. Sorry again!
I'm almost afraid to repeat the part of my question that wasn't about the translations, but rather about the dimensions for cultivation.
How different are the transmission housings, especially their mounting flanges to the engine, the arrangement of the drive shaft flanges, and any necessary threads for attachment parts and pendulum supports? Can the transmissions be relatively easily swapped between each other, or were there various changes over the course of model revisions that make a conversion more difficult or even impossible?
Thank you for your patience with my reading difficulties and for your responses.

Hi, I'm completely unfamiliar with this area. I've looked at all the lists and realized that I don't understand anything. I have the same wish for my VW Golf IV TDI, manufactured in 1998. I would like a six-speed transmission, especially since my TDI has been slightly modified by *** and now produces 135 horsepower. A sixth gear on the highway (which is where I mostly drive) would be very useful.
Could any of the guys who know about this give me some advice? Is there a suitable six-speed transmission for my Golf? And if so, where can I get one?

Hello everyone!
I'd like to revive this somewhat outdated thread because I still have the desire to install a 6-speed transmission.
Can someone definitively tell me if the 6-speed gearbox from a 1.9 PD-TDI engine can be physically fitted to a 1.9 VE-TDI engine (specifically, an AGR version)?
I'm mainly thinking about the transmission housing (engine flange), the engine mounting bracket on the left side (connected to the chassis), and the position and dimensions of the drive shaft flanges.
Thank you for your expert assistance.

Hi donalexo,
I have also dealt with this issue before because I strongly believe in the idea.
I find it appealing. The device itself fits easily onto the motor, and also...
place it in the engine compartment. All the 6-speed transmissions have a different input shaft.
a corresponding clutch (240mm diameter) is required. This one [the clutch] is not from me.
"It might not even fit a crankshaft from a 6-speed transmission. The flywheel, which is also not mine, would require a corresponding starter motor. And finally, it fits..."
Also, not even the flanges of the drive shafts (which are probably larger on the 6-speed version).
Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the length of the drive shafts. I was planning to...
Here's the translation:
An offer for all (used) parts (transmission, flywheel, clutch, starter, 2 x drive shaft) for €1500. However, I couldn't quite bring myself to do it.
Please correct any errors in the following text; I may have included some irrelevant information or only understood certain parts.
listen.

Hello transmission experts,
I came across an offer for a CYP gearbox that comes from a Golf with a 110hp TDI engine. This gearbox should be relatively easy to install in an A3 with an AGR engine, right?
Do the drive shafts, engine mounts, etc., fit?
What about the clutch? According to the table on this website, the CYP gearbox has a larger clutch diameter compared to my CZL gearbox (I believe it's 228mm versus 219mm). What modifications might be necessary in this case? Does anyone have any information about this?
Thank you for your help.

Yes. I even used a CYP from a Seat Toledo (AFN) in a Golf Mk2 with a 1.6 TD engine, and it fits. It's part of the VAG modular system .
Quote: | | Do the drive shafts, engine mounts, etc., fit? |
The CYP has 100mm flanges. If you also have these (measure the outer diameter!), then I would say: yes. Aggregate bearing: If you originally have a gearbox with cable-operated shifting/hydraulic clutch, it should have the same dimensions and fit into the engine mount (it even fits on the "2er" model, which originally has a completely different gearbox with shift linkage, clutch cable, and a "reversed" clutch).

If the input shaft doesn't fit your clutch disc, you might be able to find a suitable replacement in accessory shops. I had to take the flywheel, the complete 228mm clutch, and the starter motor from a G60 because they were completely different designs.
