Hi
I have previously driven my G2 Diesel (JP) dry several times and then re-started it.
I also had my 1Z (which has a VP37, right?)
Now I just read that a TDI with VP44 engine should never be exposed to dry conditions...
http://www.avlditest.com/wDownloads/news/press02.pdf
Does this apply to the VP44 and also to the VP37?
Thank you.

Hello,
take a look over there:
http://www.fatty-fuels.de/messages/28911.html
Axial piston pumps seem to handle this better, but at least, the pumps are officially refilled with organ music after being idle.

Diesel.gustav has already written about drying out the VP44. Gruß Bertil

Thank you.
I was only searching for "dry driving" and found nothing.
So, dürfen wir also die 4-Zylinder VP TDIs ruhig trocken fahren?
PDs also?

... and I wouldn't stand for that either. At least, a VP37 is not quite as sensitive as a VP44.
These pumps are all lubricated with diesel; if the lubricant is missing, it becomes critical.
Good question... I hadn't even thought about that before. Gruß Bertil

so, the VP37 should not be dried out.
The VP44 should not be allowed to dry out. IIRC, they also detect air in the low-pressure circuit and then simply flag it as an error.
PDs also don't really tolerate air either, but there, due to the pre-pumping pump, restarting is a bit easier. Since the product is first fed into the rail (where it is also vented via the over-flow throttle), the whole process is relatively straightforward.
Generally applicable. Avoid driving on dry roads under all circumstances!
When changing pumps or filters, ALWAYS fill the component. When changing filters, people often say 'oh, the pump will suck it in anyway.' However, this is not true, and the battery will be drained and the pump will fail.
See you, Gremlin |

I had already emptied the first pump nozzle... (AJM)
Nothing happened, I just had to play the organ for 1.5 minutes... |
