I have a question. I need to replace the diesel filter, but I have no idea when it was last changed, or if it has ever been changed. So, I'm going to replace it. I got a tip from another TD driver. He suggested that I use a replacement filter that is used by drivers of vehicles that run on heating oil.

The website is:
http://www.monopoel.de/

You can find it under Products -> Fuel Filters -> Filter Head.
The filter head "FK-flach-VW" is the correct one for the TD/TDi. The corresponding fuel filter can be found under "Products" -> "Fuel Filters" -> "Main Filters", and it is the "FF-VW" filter.

It's all relatively inexpensive, and the diesel filter replacement is also easier because you no longer have to remove any hoses; instead, the filter is simply screwed onto the engine head, just like an oil filter.

"What do you think, can this filter combination also be used in a TDI engine? Or should I install a pre-filter in the fuel line, or should I stick with the original or aftermarket filters?"

THX.

I've met Stefan (Mr. Monopoel) before - he's really nice, and we had a whole evening of in-depth conversation about the topic.

... when we converted the T3 for my colleague on Poel. The T3 now has a replaceable filter installed, and it seems to be working quite well.

Personally, I will continue to replace the entire filter because I don't want to bother with the hassle of trying to remove the diesel-soaked filter element.

It's purely for convenience, and something I want to afford myself.

The filter doesn't really matter! But be careful with ATU! They are known to cause problems! Take a look around this forum; there have been several discussions about them.

Hi,
I also replaced the filter in my VW Bus T3 (price over €25!!) with Monopoel's replacement system, which also allowed me to install a return heater at the same time - and so far, it's working perfectly without any problems.
(approximately 20,000 km on the 1Z engine), and then the filter only costs 5 €.
Hi, Marcus.

Hi,

The older filters used in most TDIs have the disadvantage that they tend to leak air (at the T-piece that is connected to the filter). This is probably why, for example, the Touran now uses a filter that no longer has this unusual connection mechanism. With this filter, all four hoses are connected directly to the corresponding ports.

Could this filter also be used in older TDIs? Based on the dimensions, it should fit...

Greetings.

Eike.

Okay, I'll check that out at VW tomorrow.

"I would like to take a test drive sometime. --- Do you still need the filter???"

The bimetallic valve for preheating is located in the connection block.

I wouldn't have even installed a 1Z engine without that part, because it controls the engine based on the diesel temperature.

And the Touran filter would likely be even more expensive because each disposable filter would need to contain a bimetallic strip!

Hmm, I haven't read anything about those things drawing a lot of air, and I haven't noticed it myself either.

Best regards, WarLord.

Hi,

is usually not a problem for diesel drivers. Air is only drawn in when there is a significant vacuum, for example, with thick fuel in the winter icon_rolleyes.gif. In extreme cases, there can be -0.9 bar (90% vacuum) between the filter and the ESP.
The filter fineness is the same whether you choose the screw-in cartridge or the complete filter. For diesel drivers, the price is also not a major factor, as you don't have to change it every 30,000 to 100,000 kilometers like we "spinners" do with our used cooking oil.

Best regards, Uli.

Okay, I'm just about to change the filter. I wanted to reuse the check valve. Is it possible that this won't work? I thought it was just a plug-in type.
Since the thing seems to be made of plastic, I don't want to force it. Can this thing be reused, or not? If so, how the heck do I get it out of the holder?

Just pull it upwards? Did you make sure to pull out the prong (the blue holder)?

Best regards, WarLord.

Pulling it upwards is good. Of course, I removed the retaining clip. However, for convenience, I wanted to leave the hose connected to the valve; is that okay?
However, it won't pull up; I tried using two fingers on each wire and pulling, but nothing happened.
The connectors on the hoses will probably bend before that happens. icon_sad.gif
At some point, I managed to get it to rotate a little bit; not much, but enough to adjust it, like in a game. However, it doesn't go up icon_sad.gif.
