I have a 110 horsepower ASV (presumably a type of engine), and I'm now installing a turbocharger from a 150 horsepower PD (presumably another type of engine) into it.
Do you think it would be worth retrofitting the LLK as well?

Which parts would I need to replace? I heard the LLK is located somewhere completely different.

Regards,
Benjamin.

Hello Benjamin,

If you also want to achieve the 1.5 bar boost pressure of the 150 hp engine, you should consider reducing the compression ratio.

Best regards, Rainer.

Do you have any experience with that?

Do you think a thicker head gasket would solve the problem?

Regards,

Benjamin.

Hi,

At 147,000 km, the head gasket failed in my car, and there were minor cracks in the cylinder head.
There could be many reasons for this, and I don't want to rehash everything right now.
It's certainly not a good idea to have such high boost pressure with the corresponding fuel injection volume without reducing the compression ratio.
Therefore, I can't tell you that with boost pressure x, the ZK/ZKD will fail after y kilometers.
It will probably be fine for a while... but I personally wouldn't drive like that permanently.

Best regards, Rainer.

Does anyone know of possible measures to increase compression? Are there any specific types of ZKD?

Regards,
Benjamin.

Increase compression: Have the cylinder head and block machined. Otherwise, you could also increase the boost pressure. However, what you probably want is to *reduce* the compression. The simplest solution is to apply a second layer of head gasket.

Okay, you're right, I misspoke. I meant 'reduction' instead.

Are there any other options besides a second one? Sure, here's the translation:

'Head poetry?'
Does anyone have any experience with this?

Regards,
Benjamin.

Hello,

There are different thicknesses of ZKDs available, which are marked with holes.
Take the thickest one (the one with the most holes).
The friendly staff can look up the thicknesses of the seals in the parts catalog for you.
If my memory serves me correctly, having 3 holes instead of 2 would have reduced the compression ratio from 19.5:1 to 19.2:1.
Because the parts dealer was incredibly incompetent and I was completely at my wit's end, I ended up buying the ones with 2 holes. icon_rolleyes.gif
You should never go shopping with a printed parts list... new_tomato.gif

Best regards, Rainer.

Rainer, why did you want to lower the compression ratio on your vehicle?

Regards,
Benjamin.

Higher boost pressure and a 10-cent tuning adjustment? Possibly. Chip tuning?

Best regards, WarLord.

Do you think a reduction of 0.3 would make a difference?
Isn't that a bit too little?

Regards,
Benjamin.

Do you think it's possible to install two thick head gaskets on top of each other?

Regards,
Benjamin.

Hello,

There are 3 different types of gaskets available from VW. The correct gasket must be installed depending on the piston clearance. However, it does not automatically mean that the thickest gasket will always result in a specific compression ratio! It varies from motor to motor.

Best regards,
Albrecht.
