Hello to all AEL and AAT drivers,
A friend of mine is planning to buy an A6 with one of the engines mentioned.
It would be interesting to know the emission standard. Is it EURO1 or EURO2, or from when was it EURO2?
Thank you and greetings.

Hi!
As far as I know, Euro 2 was used from 1992 to 1997.
But this can also be misleading! (depending on the pollutant key in the letter).

The AAT definitely uses Euros; I have one myself. I'm not sure about the AEL.

My AAT 11/92 originally came with Euro 1 emissions standards, but now it has a different catalytic converter that meets Euro 2 standards.
The AAT (Antilag System) of the C4 A6 is different from that of the Audi 100 C4. However, I only know of a smaller turbocharger for earlier torque build-up, which makes a difference of at least 1/10 of a second in the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time .
By the way, the nozzles also have different part numbers.
Possible key numbers for Euro2 can be found online with a bit of effort. Gruß Christian

My AEL (presumably a type of permit or license) is currently at EURO 2 standard and costs 370 EUR. However, from January 1, 2004, the price will increase to 401 EUR.
Useful websites for this topic are www.kfz-steuer.de (for vehicle tax information) and www.typklassen.de (for insurance classification information).

Hey,
I can only confirm that the AEL engine is classified as Euro 2, at least in my Volvo 850 TDI.
Best regards from Bielefeld.

Hi,
christianS is right.
C4 TDI models produced before the transition from the '100' to the 'A6' series have Euro1 emissions standards, while those produced after the transition have Euro2 emissions standards.
Since the AEL (Abgasendbegrenzung) standard wasn't introduced until the A6 model, it definitely meets the Euro2 emissions standard.
The Kat valve from Euro1 to Euro2 for AAT is quite expensive: approximately 600 euros including installation.
Given that the tax savings have decreased from 580 to 370, it's easy to calculate how much longer you'll need to drive the car...

Right now, you can find it on eBay for 270. You can easily install it yourself, but you'll need to have the installation certified by the TÜV (German technical inspection authority), which will cost you around 30 or 40 euros. Gruß Christian
