Hello, I'm having an issue with my Audi A3, manufactured in February 1997, with a 66kW TDI engine and 70,000 km on the odometer. After driving approximately 2km from a cold start, the engine cuts out. After a short pause, it starts again and runs normally.
Could it be the diesel filter? All service intervals have been followed, but due to the low mileage, only the maintenance package for drivers who use their car less frequently has been performed.
The diagnostic tool shows no errors. Only the central locking system reported error code 1367.
Could that be related?
'Something else I've noticed is that the tachometer immediately shows zero when the engine is turned off, even though it should still be driven by the transmission in neutral. Does this indicate a power failure?'
I'm quite at a loss!
What should I change?
Diesel filters.
Relay for fuel injection pump.

There might be an issue with the immobilizer (power failure). Please try using the search function.
Klaus.

Hello Rainer,
'Silly question, what is the number of the relay designated as '109' in an Audi A3? The relays are labeled from I to VI and numbered from 1 to 12.'

Hello, I have no idea. However, due to the large print "109", it is impossible to miss it.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Joe!
Please note that the location of relay 109 in the A3 is not easily accessible. The relay is located on a relay holder underneath the steering column. To access it, you need to remove the lower dashboard panel on the driver's side.
Identifying the relay itself is very easy. As Rainer already mentioned, it has a large "109" printed on it.
The relay locations you mentioned sound to me more like the ones that are typically housed in the circuit breaker box.

Hello, relay 109 found and resoldered, the other relays checked, all cable terminal screws tightened. Test drive completed, the engine no longer stalls.
Whether I have actually found the error will become clear in the next few days.
I will keep you updated.
