Good morning!

'In my Audi 80 1Z, the following ESP (Electronic Stability Program) unit is installed: 0 460 404 995. Unfortunately, it has now developed a leak after 366,000 kilometers, so I am looking for a replacement.'
It's the first 1Z with 182 Nm of torque.

'Is a Bosch 0 460 404 998 compatible with my fuel pump? I've noticed that it also has the round multi-pin connector, which, as far as I know, was only used in older 1Z models with potentiometer-based quantity control systems up to around 1994.'

Perhaps someone knows something about this and can confirm or deny it for me.

By the way: Henzo from www.dieselsend no longer creates custom ESPs icon_sad.gif.

Regards,
Lucas.

I found something else that might be helpful as an addition.

Bosch Part No. / VAG Part No.

until February 1994.
0 460 404 995 / 028 130 109

until August 1992.
0 460 404 998 / 028 130 108 M

So, they're probably not replaceable after all. But what exactly was changed there? - On the nozzles?

Hello Lucas,

until 8/1992.
0 460 404 998 / 028 130 108 M

likely for the 1Z engine variant with indirect injection nozzles without pre-injection (resulting in a more aggressive engine running).

until 2.1994.
0 460 404 995 / 028 130 109 J

presumably for engines with throttle potentiometer sensors, mass airflow sensors using bypass valves, etc., like the ones you and I have.

My repair manual states that these two pumps are not compatible because they each require a different engine control unit (ECU). Unfortunately, I don't have any personal experience with them.

Regards,
Michael.
