AGR Failure Damage: 1Z Engine Problems

Hi.

I intend to disable the AGR (Abgasrückführung) system on my Audi 80 Avant TDI, manufactured in 1/93. During a seal replacement on the flange of the intake manifold, I diagnosed a significant buildup of deposits, which indicates a considerable amount of carbon buildup.
After cleaning this, the thought occurred to me about disabling the AGR (Abgasrückführung - Exhaust Gas Recirculation).
I would install a suitable, thin, oval plate into the upper inlet directly at the manifold suction pipe.
1. Question: Is that enough?
2. Question: Are (especially negative) side effects to be expected?
