Hi,
I've observed in my automatic transmission that - if you irrationally play with the accelerator pedal while idling at a traffic light - the engine seems to respond better to acceleration when the clutch is depressed. Is this related to a clutch pedal sensor and a corresponding mode in the EDC (Electronic Drive Control), or is it simply that the reduced inertia of the transmission when the clutch is disengaged is the cause? Because I haven't experienced this effect with my previous gasoline cars.
I can imagine that, in order to improve exhaust emissions, the EGR rate could be increased while the engine is idling and the clutch is disengaged. Conversely, the EGR rate could be reduced when starting to move, in order to achieve better responsiveness.
Conversely, this could also be used to determine whether the EGR valve is still functioning.
What do you think? Is it just the inertia of the gearbox? Gruß

Hello Roger,
The clutch pedal switch is monitored by the EDC (Electronic Diesel Control).
I installed a switch in the wiring of my car because I was annoyed by the sluggish response and wanted to take advantage of the significantly improved agility without losing the option to occasionally use GRA (presumably, a specific driving mode).
If you don't have a GRA (Gear Range Adapter), you can simply unplug the connector at the pedal switch, and it won't generate any error messages. Gruß Felix

@Felix:
Aha, so I was right.
But why is the connection so sluggish? The "sluggishness" seems to disappear when starting. It bothers me less when the engine is idling...
I'm mainly interested in knowing how the EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) specifically controls the engine differently in idle when the clutch is disengaged compared to when the clutch is engaged. For example, things like EGR rates and fuel injection amounts. Do you have more detailed information on that? Or is the pedal only monitored in GRA (Gasoline Direct Injection) vehicles to prevent over-revving when the GRA is active and the clutch is disengaged? Gruß

@ Roger
Just unplug it. You'll notice the difference even while driving.
The switch is not only installed in GRA vehicles.
The inertia is deactivated during gear changes to prevent the engine speed from "lagging" too much.
As far as I can tell (using VAG-com), the closed switch at the EDC causes a delayed response to accelerator pedal input, both when accelerating and decelerating. This was also observed with the AAZ engine before. In that case, it was solved mechanically using a gas spring.
The desired effects are:
Reduced soot emissions during sudden acceleration.
Even the most insensitive driver can operate a TDI engine with minimal jerking. Gruß Felix

The G2 model already had the SB/RA (80 hp 1.6 TD LLK) engine!
There was a throttle cable connected to a gas spring, which in turn was linked to the actual adjustment shaft of the ESP system.
In the book "now I help myself," it is also nicely described how to get rid of the feather .
The part is called a "Lastschlagdämpfer" in German, which roughly translates to "impact absorber" or "end-of-stroke damper."
Okay, I'll try to fix the clutch issue on my 1Z.

EDITH:
On GRA vehicles, the pedal switch is used to deactivate the GRA system (i.e., it causes the system to turn off).
Since it's installed in EVERY TDI, I can imagine that the torque limit of the fuel injection amount is lower when the clutch is engaged, in order to prevent the linings from slipping under full load.
Disconnecting the plug ALWAYS means IT'S_ENGAGED - so in the worst-case scenario, the coupling will wear out faster }.

"Unplugging" always means "DISCONNECTED." But regardless, I didn't measure any differences in electrical power with and without the plug connected. Gruß Felix

The switch located on the clutch pedal is the same as the one on the brake pedal.
In other words, it CLICKS when you step on it.
If you unplug it, it is ALWAYS open.

No, it's an opener.
The effect of unplugging the cable is the same as pressing the pedal.
P.S. I'm talking about the Golf IV. I don't know how the shifting works on the 3er model. Gruß Felix

When the clutch is engaged, on the one hand, the fuel injection amount is temporarily limited (load shock damping). On the other hand, when the clutch is engaged, the active anti-surge system is deactivated. As a result, the engine will respond more directly to the accelerator pedal, and especially aggressively, without regard for the rest of the drivetrain. This can lead to harsh jolts or vibrations.

I just re-read something.
In the 1Z model, the brake and clutch switches for the EDC (Electronic Stability Control) are the same, but they are the exact opposite of the brake light switch.
So, I was wrong; I thought they were all the same.
Then this poison injection should work on every TDI .

Hm, I'm really curious to see if measurable differences will be detected in that case .
