Hello,

For all those who own a Golf IV and are experiencing a loud rumbling noise at the front, this is likely caused by the anti-roll bar and its rubber bushings. That's right, at least almost.
I had the same problem, and that's why I bought new rubber bands.

I removed the old rubber pieces and wanted to install the new ones. Songs, or luckily I got the wrong rubber bushings from the VW dealer, and I had to reinstall my old ones. However, while I was taking them out, I fiddled around with the car a bit, and I noticed the following:

Two M10 screws are screwed into the lower part of the right axle hub, attaching to the axle carrier. One of these screws aligns directly with the stabilizer bar. Because this screw is positioned so close to the stabilizer bar that, when the rubber bushings of the stabilizer bar become slightly softer, the bar swings so strongly that it hits the screw, causing a loud knocking sound. However, since the screw protrudes about 15mm from the thread, I removed it and cut off 10mm. Reinstalled, and now it's quiet icon_smile.gif.

I think that's clearly a design flaw. And VW is happy to sell new tires that aren't actually needed.

Okay,

If someone wants to know how to fix a faulty windshield wiper unit on a Golf, I would also know something about that. 'I had the same problem with mine, and when the VW dealer told me that it was a known issue and that the new unit cost 90 euros, I started tinkering with it a bit.'

Happy Sunday to everyone.

Is it possible to have a photo? Where is it indicated which screw you shortened?

It would be possible, just not with that weather icon_smile.gif.

Perhaps I can find an exploded diagram, which would allow me to illustrate it even better.

Okay, I just quickly took a picture of that.

I hope it's clear which screw I shortened.

Regards,

Gerhard.

Hmm, does the stabilizer bar really come that close to the engine mount? I can't quite remember anymore...[img][/img]

What kind of engine do you have? Do you know if you have the 19mm or 22mm stabilizer bar installed?

In the picture, you have only marked one screw. You probably meant a total of 4 screws, 2 on each side, right?http://www.cheesebuerger.de/smilies/verbluefft/7.gif{MARKER}

Hi,

I have the 22 mm stabilizer. It's a 110 horsepower engine with an automatic transmission, but don't ask me for the model code.

As I said, I'm leaning towards 'misalignment' because the screw on the right side doesn't seem to fit quite right. The others aren't close either. As I mentioned, I only noticed it because I removed the supports and then shook the stabilizer.
And it's still quiet, despite the old bearings. And my rattling was extremely loud!!! Colleagues have already thought that my axle might come loose icon_smile.gif.

Okay, you definitely have the thick stabilizer bar installed... hmm... well, it's good that your Golf 4 is quiet now. But when I think about my Golf 4 TDI, those 10mm bolts from down there weren't that long to begin with. No matter what, I need to go through the old photos sometime. icon_wink.gif
