....I found some steel rims with winter tires from a Golf 3 TDI for my Ibiza TDI at a good price. I wanted to put normal hubcaps on the steel rims (the ones that are attached with a metal ring), but they don't fit because the center of the hubcaps rests on the rim. So, I need hubcaps that are slightly raised in the center, or can I not put any hubcaps on the steel rims at all? Here's a picture of the rim!

The rim has an offset of ET 38 and is also used on the Golf 3 VR6 and GTI. Could a different VW wheel cap (e.g., from a Golf 4, Passat, etc.) possibly fit on it?
I would be grateful for any help!
Regards,
Monchi.

I don't want to mislead you, but as far as I know, if there are any covers at all, they're just small caps in the center of the rim that cover the wheel bolts and hub! I had something like that on my Polo once! You often see them on Polo 6N models.

Yes, I think MatthiasTDI96 is right. As far as I know, there's a cover for those that only covers the screws up to that bulge.

Hi,

"These rims only come with the original center caps designed for the Passat 35i. I also had those on my GTI. At least they properly cover the hub and bolts. However, you have to be careful, as 4-hole and 5-hole designs are not interchangeable."

They weren't particularly expensive in 1996, but of course, that doesn't necessarily mean anything for 2003 icon_sad.gif.

You could also try using aftermarket hubcaps. Most of them are designed to be quite large, so they tend to fit a wide range of vehicles. We bought some for our Polo 9N after the dealership wanted a whopping 86 euros (!) for a set of hubcaps, and even eBay was asking almost as much for used ones.

I found that the caps at the Gl*bus hardware store were well-made for a very reasonable price of €2.29. They have a metal ring, and the only thing I noticed was that the paint was a bit thin. But hey, for the money we saved, we can buy new ones every winter for years to come...

Here is the part number for the hubcaps for steel rims with a 5/100 bolt pattern: 3A0 601 149 B.

Approximately 12 euros per piece, net.
