'Hmm, I was thinking about getting a ready-made diagnostic connector from eBay, so I wouldn't have to worry about sourcing the connector and doing the soldering. Is 40 euros a reasonable price for an adapter, or is that too much? How much did your adapter with connector and circuit board cost? By the way, if I build the interface myself, I probably won't finish it in two years (I haven't had time for things like that lately).'
Best regards, WarLord.

'What do you think about a ready-made interface from our host? It's a bit more expensive than the stuff you find on eBay. Do you have a 1Z? If so, I'd advise against buying anything from eBay. I've built countless interfaces, and they worked everywhere except on my 1Z. It took an adapter with a MAX232 chip to finally get it working. And you can find exactly that kind of thing from Rainer. Plus, if it doesn't work, you'll get expert support here, which might not be the case with eBay products. Also, you might be supporting the forum a little bit. '

I was also considering that. Unfortunately, my laptop doesn't have a serial port, and Rainer only offers adapters that use a serial port. Or would they also work with a USB-to-serial adapter? VW Golf III TDI Avenue, MKB 1Z, EZ96

Opel Vectra C SW First Edition, MKB Z19DTH, EZ05

I've already posted about USB-to-RS232 adapters and provided some working solutions. Please search for those posts.
By the way, I also tried the one from Reichelt. It seems there was a supplier change, but it works fine under XP (at least for me). VAG-COM didn't have any problems with it! The only thing to 'complain' about is that this device occasionally causes a blue screen after prolonged use. But for less than 15€, you can probably live with that! As far as I know, Rainer is also working on a USB-ISO9141 adapter.
