Hi.
The title says it all.
Is the 3L 1.2 TDI engine also equipped with a wastegate?
Unfortunately, the 1.4 engine lacks the low-end torque that is so important for good performance.
Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

The 1.2 version, as far as I know, comes with a VTG turbocharger. It's also tuned differently than the 1.4 version (there are quite a few differences).
Best regards, WarLord.

The lack of low-end power can be effectively masked with a chip tune, although it might involve a slight increase in soot production (it's purely a matter of fine-tuning).

Olaf.

I drove him in the Polo 9N - it's a company car, and definitely won't be chipped .
The series will actually only be available on the market starting in the year 2200.

Yes, with the chip, depending on the configuration, it can be around 1600-1800 (RPM). However, there are also chips that only reach 2100 RPM, but then operate completely soot-free.
Well, the 9N is already quite heavy for the engine. I once drove a pre-production version with the 1.9L 100 HP engine. It had almost the same acceleration as my chipped 1.4L in my Lupo (the Lupo was slightly better at low speeds, the Polo slightly better at higher speeds, but the difference was absolutely marginal).
Regards,
Olaf.

Is the Polo supposed to be fast? Well, I don't know, maybe it's because I only drive cars in the Golf, Passat, and Touran class, but even with the small 1.2 6V gasoline engine, it goes like a rocket.
Best regards, WarLord.

Okay, so I drove the 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine for about 4,000 kilometers. To be honest, I found it quite sluggish, but it was fairly economical.

Olaf.

The 90hp PD engine in the Sharan with the ANU code also uses a wastegate.

Could a K03 or K04 wastegate turbocharger from a 1.8T gasoline engine potentially be used on a TDI diesel engine?

Well, since none of the experts are likely to be up this early on a Saturday, I'll share my layman's thoughts on the matter.
They probably don't fit... but with a little tinkering, you can usually get things to work.
The idea doesn't seem quite as straightforward as putting a diesel engine into a car designed for a gasoline engine. It would likely immediately cause thermal problems due to the higher exhaust temperatures.
Conversely, I doubt that the KKK turbocharger will really come into its own on the TDI engine, given the different operating speeds of the engines. It's likely that significant boost pressure only kicks in from around 3500 RPM, which will give the car a noticeable lack of acceleration (if you can even call it that). Even at 4000 RPM and slightly beyond, the diesel engine is already reaching its limit. Therefore, the usable rev range would be quite narrow.
In my opinion, the whole thing wouldn't make much sense... perhaps it would be more relevant in a V10 TDI engine, where there is more displacement (which means a larger volume of exhaust gases).
Regards,
Olaf.

The 1.4-liter engine is also available with a VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) turbocharger if it has 66 kW, and as far as I know, it's currently only offered in the A2 model.
"Furthermore, I think the 1.4-liter engine in the A2 is quite a successful design. Ours is completely unchipped and feels a bit sluggish at low speeds, but we didn't buy it as a sports car; rather, for short to medium distances, and in that regard, it's a perfect car for me. It has a high seating position, is agile, relatively quick, and pleasantly light. However, I had hoped for better fuel economy from the diesel engine. To achieve good mileage, you really have to drive carefully. Otherwise, it consumes about the same amount of fuel as my Golf."
However, I must say that this is absolutely a car without any major problems... well, if the air filter were easier to change, it would be perfect.

@ Matthias
Sure, the 1.4 with VTG is "relatively" new. I'd like to drive one sometime... (I know all the other variants in the Lupo and A2). It's strange that it feels so sluggish at low RPM, especially since the A2 doesn't weigh much. Let's try turning on the AC. On the 75 HP version, that made a big difference in the A2 above the first 700 RPM from idle.
For short distances (under 15 km), I don't think a car is suitable because it takes a very long time to warm up. That's probably why you have such high fuel consumption... Also, the engine naturally feels sluggish when it's cold.
When I drive my 1.4-liter engine with a wastegate in short trips, I typically consume about twice as much fuel as I do on longer journeys (in city traffic).
Regards,
Olaf.

Okay, Olaf, when I say "short distance," I mean something like 25 kilometers straight from here in Hasu to work, driving across the countryside. And this thing gets incredibly warm very quickly; my Golf should really take note. It becomes noticeably warm after just 3 kilometers, while my Golf is still freezing (sniff, I don't have glow plugs either). The air conditioning is almost always off because it also has the Open Sky system, which I like to keep open.
It's not really tough; it's comfortable and, in my opinion, a great car. Unfortunately, it doesn't want to let go easily... which is understandable.
"What I also mean by 'consumption' is that when we drive about 500 kilometers to the coast with two people and the cruise control set at 120 km/h, which happens often, the engine always runs at a level equivalent to or higher than a Golf, which is annoying. Also, even under optimal maintenance, the engine isn't economical. When I bought it from Holland, I put it in fifth gear right behind the dealer and drove about 200 kilometers on the highway at around 90 km/h, always keeping the RPMs up but carefully, and I also occasionally drive the same route with new cars for comparison. The Audi, with its 3.0-liter engine, achieved the best fuel economy then, but since then, it's been much worse. Of course, who would voluntarily drive 200 km/h if they weren't in a truck?"
I'm not upset about the consumption, I just thought it would be more efficient when I bought it... but it isn't.

"25 km is already okay. The fact that the car gets hot doesn't mean the engine warms up (there's an auxiliary heater in the car). In winter, it could easily take 20 km to warm up if you don't drive faster than 80 km/h. Of course, if you accelerate twice (briefly accelerating to around 120 km/h), it will warm up even in sub-zero temperatures... but that also uses fuel and doesn't really help the engine."
I don't know what the Golf's fuel consumption was... but it wasn't that thirsty, though. If I drive at a constant speed of 120 km/h for an extended period, which is rare, it's always well below 5 liters (and the Lupo is actually a bit heavier than the A2). Admittedly, the fuel efficiency advantage of the engine is most noticeable in taxi operation (mostly city driving).
Well, whatever... I don't know what "a lot" means to you either. If I use about 5 liters (+/- 1 liter) in a mix, I think that's good. And even with very fast driving, I can still get by with that amount (with the same driving style, a gasoline engine with slightly less power would consume about 9-11 liters).
Sometimes you're forced to drive at the 90 km/h speed limit... For example, in Lithuania, long queues of cars often form because the police regularly conduct checks on certain main roads with an absurd level of intensity. However, strangely enough, this only happens during the day. As soon as it starts to get dark, you can make much better progress.
Regards,
Olaf.

Okay, here's a more specific question now:
Does the wastegate turbocharger from an ANU engine fit on an AHU engine?
