The door lock no longer works in the cold.

Hello,

I'm having a problem with my Passat 3B (year 2000) where the door locks no longer close at temperatures below -5°C. The driver's door is particularly affected. The cause is that the small locking lever, which holds the locking hook, becomes difficult to move and no longer engages. (You have to warm it up with a hairdryer, then it works again.)

I also had this problem with my 35i earlier, but there I could remove, clean, and lubricate the lock from the outside. However, this only worked for a few weeks.

My question:
How can this problem be permanently solved, especially with the 3B, where access to the lock is only possible with a lot of effort?

I've written a post about this.

The only solution is to expand, disassemble, and lubricate. If it's similar to what I experienced with my Audi, you'll already see why it's difficult to achieve much when the lock is already installed.
