Rattle noise in the dashboard Golf 4

Hi, fellow screw enthusiasts,

After my AXR has already caused me so much trouble, I want to bring up a problem that has nothing to do with the drive unit.

As early as about 12 months ago, I noticed rattling noises coming from the dashboard. Initially, I thought it was one of my aftermarket components (FSE, navigation system or navi radio). After removing all of these components, the rattling continued. So, I put everything back in and started looking again. Occasionally, I have also driven other 4-seater vehicles that had similar characteristics.
Over the weekend, I completely disassembled the dashboard (a real pain). What did I find on the passenger side? A metal reinforcement of the dashboard that sits just above the crossbar of the dashboard (directly above the passenger airbag). This support seems to have shifted downwards over time and is now resting on the support pipe. It's making a terrible noise. I pushed a piece of foam in between, and the rattling is gone. Great construction.

The strut is integrated into the dashboard, so it is not visible in your picture (since this cover is missing ). The rattling sound is coming from the pipe that is visible in the picture. The position is directly in front of the passenger airbag (when viewed in the direction of travel).

Unfortunately, I couldn't take any pictures (the camera was not accessible). It is also not necessary to completely disassemble the dashboard to resolve the issue. Remove the drawer, and you'll be able to access it from underneath.
