Hello everyone,
"Since Friday, I've been hearing a high-frequency humming/whirring sound coming from my dashboard. It only occurs when the car is warm and seems to be coming from the area around the speedometer/center air vents. I haven't been able to pinpoint the exact location yet. It's also quite difficult to have to drive for half an hour every time, especially with the current fuel prices."
I already took the radio out yesterday, but that was all I did!
Here's my question: Has this phenomenon occurred with other users before, and what was it?
If not, maybe someone can tell me how to remove the dashboard part that's located in the driver's footwell.
Thank you very much.

"I have the same issue with my Bora. It only happens after driving at high speeds, usually after being on the highway. It sounds like a bird park. VW once redesigned the fuse box, but that didn't fix it. It's annoying, but I've learned to live with it..."
Best regards,
Stefan.

Update:
Yesterday, I went to the friendly mechanic and wanted to get their advice. Unfortunately, the master mechanic is on vacation and won't be back until next week. Sadly, none of the mechanics were able to help me.
So, I continued the search on my own!
The noise only occurs when the car is warm! It doesn't matter what position I set the ventilation flaps on the climate control to; the noise is also present when the fan is set to "off"! It always happens around 1250 RPM and sounds like a metallic, high-frequency, loud chirping. I've already fiddled with all sorts of parts in the radio compartment, but the source cannot be found . However, it definitely comes from the area of the center console/radio compartment...
I'm at my wit's end.

Disconnect all the fuses related to the Climatronic system. If the noise disappears, it's likely coming from the Climatronic's actuators. Simply turning it off ('OFF') won't be enough to identify the source.
Then the hazard light switch (also known as the flasher relay) might also be the culprit. Try disconnecting it as well.
Another thing I could imagine is the combination instrument, as it also contains 4 stepper motors.
Sometimes you can hear the valves for the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and the turbocharger, which are located in the engine compartment near the firewall. Body noise travels quite far.

Think simpler.
These noises are usually caused by a faulty fan in the Climatronic control unit (control panel). It's typically a simple bearing failure.
Check the left-hand grille (where dust usually accumulates) between the recirculation and defrost buttons using a flashlight to see if the fan behind it is rotating freely and if that's causing the noise. Ideally, use a vacuum cleaner to clear any debris from the area, as it tends to accumulate.

Okay, so I listened very carefully again, trying to pinpoint the source of the noise. It seems to be coming from the dashboard, specifically from the area around the defrost vent on the windshield. However, it's not directly from the vent itself, but rather from inside the dashboard.
Could it possibly be a valve on the Tronic system? And more importantly, how do I access it?

The solution to the riddle:
A loose heat shield vibrating! I never thought it would make such a spectacle.

Hi Matze,
What kind of heat shield are we talking about? How do I access it?
What do I need to do?
It would be great if you could explain things in a little more detail.
Maybe I'll finally be able to get those birds out of the car...
Best regards,
Stefan.
