...but I hope someone might have a suggestion. It's a FIAT Punto SX 1.2L 8V with 60 horsepower, manufactured in 2001. The engine rattles when it's cold. After driving about 1-2 kilometers, the rattling disappears. What could it be? I can also record a sound file of the rattling if you'd like.
Best regards, WarLord.

So, you should already know what's rattling!
Mostly, The Hydros:..
First time adding fully synthetic engine oil (changing it).
2. Measure oil pressure!
Check the 3rd valve clearance; if the clearance is too large, replace the adjustment element!!
or all of them if it's not too expensive

The sounds coming from the hydrolic components are different in my Passat (and the clicking sound disappears after about 5 seconds). I also can't imagine it's an oil pressure issue, since it seems to disappear after about 1-2 kilometers, and the oil isn't even that warm at that point. Also, the oil pressure indicator light doesn't come on.
Best regards, WarLord.

The Hydros sound different on my Passat (and the clicking noise disappears after about 5 seconds).
... and with your Passat, they are very likely to be fine as well.
But if they make a rattling noise for longer than a few seconds, you should definitely check to see if they are broken.
There's this great pressure test you can do with a piece of wood or something similar. I haven't had to test it myself on my engines yet, but how to do it is explained in every 'Do it yourself' book.
Best, Andy.

Something must be rattling, and also, it's a valve-driven mechanism.
and there's nothing loose or rattling on the engine, including the connecting rod bearings.
Gertiebe and couplings can also make noises, but that sounds like a rattling and not like a ticking.
That can only be said more precisely if you hear it yourself, sorry .
But if it's gone after 1-2 kilometers and then doesn't come back, it's almost irrelevant! It's just a Fiat (faulty in every part). }

It still drives well, though. Well, the rattling wouldn't really bother me, but the oil consumption or loss is concerning. I guess I'll have to take it to the workshop sometime (it's only got 21,000 km and is 2 years old).
Best regards, WarLord.

...if it already has hydraulic components... I saw a few days ago what was inside the engine bay of a Renault Kangoo, and what I saw there in terms of technology... it wasn't anything modern like hydraulics. I believe the engine was an old R5 model, and if the R4 already had a four-cylinder engine, it was probably in there as well.
But honestly, if you have such a new car and the warranty is still valid, don't do anything yourself. First, try to have the workshop fix it so that the warranty remains valid. If it's a 1-liter engine, it has a timing chain, which can sometimes rattle quite a bit in Fiat Fire engines, but it shouldn't disappear after only 2 kilometers. Hydraulic lifters failing is quite early... and oil consumption is actually quite normal for these small engines. So, unless you have to add a liter every thousand kilometers, it's still within an acceptable range.

'My two former neighbors also had those engines. The problem was that the synthetic oil was too thin, and the sluggish oil pump transported the oil too slowly after the engine started. A normal 15W-40 would be fine. As far as I know, those engines don't have hydraulic lifters.'
