Hello, I've been having a major problem with my Audi 80 B4 1.9 TDI 1Z, built in 1994, with air conditioning for some time.
And specifically, the timing belt squeals as long as the car is cold (below 50-60 degrees).
I have replaced the tensioner pulley, the idler pulley, and the tensioner for the tensioner pulley. However, it is not resolving the issue.
The squeaking is so loud that I can't risk starting the car at 6:00 AM in the morning...
After I had changed everything after hours of work (you can easily access the parts), I was already looking forward to starting the car.
When I did that, the squeaking was even more intense than before!
The loud noise is coming from the direction of the drive shaft. After spraying the surface of the belt with a rust remover, the squeaking immediately stops and remains gone until the grease from the belt is removed.
The condition of the compressor and other components seems okay after lubrication, but there was no improvement until I oiled the belt. Then everything became quiet.
Unfortunately, I'm at the end of my rope and don't know what to do anymore. My VAG (Volkswagen, Audi, etc.) repair shop wants to keep the car for a week to fix the problem, but I don't want to invest another 2000 € in the car...
Does anyone have a clever tip I can follow?
Greetings
Tobi |

Had the same problem in the summer with a 1Z engine in the C4. In my case, it was the pulley on the crankshaft. It was a pulley that was vulcanized together. The vulcanization had broken down, and the pulley could only transmit power with a lot of effort. Had been making deafening noises, and was then removed with Caramba on the running surface of the belt for a day.
While the method of eliminating errors was dismissed in another forum, I also didn't know how to proceed. The warehouse worker at VAG was aware of the problem. Rope wheel costs 250€. |
