T4 TDI Suspension: Parts & Upgrades

I once wrote about the disastrous handling of our T4, which the workshop couldn't fix. After the 5th attempt, I gave up and switched workshops. They properly adjusted the suspension in one morning and discovered that the constant incorrect settings had damaged the tires to the point where they would cause a pull to the right, even with a properly adjusted suspension. However, even with the old tires (which we'll continue to use until winter, when they'll be worn out anyway), the handling is much better. There's no more steering wobble, and it's still drivable at 190 km/h without causing anxiety. The reason the engine is producing excessive smoke and less power than we're used to is due to an incorrectly adjusted fuel injection pump. The "old" workshop also failed to identify this, even though they had recently replaced the crankshaft damper, which requires removing the timing belt to adjust the pump. Another later visit to the same workshop didn't resolve the issue either.They always wanted a lot of money for it.

That just shows you what a good workshop can do, and how a bad one can ruin the entire product!

Regarding the vibration damper: The ZR (presumably a cover or housing) doesn't need to be removed. You only need to loosen the central screw and the four screws that attach to the crankshaft pulley. Then, you can remove the vibration damper by tapping on the four screws of the crankshaft (I've done this myself).
