A4 8E Smoke: Causes, Repair & Prevention

My A4 8E 2.5 TDI 132 kW Quattro exhibits a significant amount of smoke below 2,000 RPM, even under less than full load. The engine has an *** chip installed.
Could this possibly be related to a faulty AGR valve?
How can I possibly block the AGR (Abgasrückführung) system?
I also doubt whether a fuel consumption of around 8.0 liters per 100 kilometers is acceptable, even with a moderate driving style.

Regarding your remaining questions: please use the search function!
Regarding the keyword "metal gasket" and the technical article about the AGR valve, I cannot tell you whether the engine control unit detects and sanctions any manipulation (i.e., whether repairing the AGR valve is more advantageous).
To check if the EGR valve is actually the cause of your black smoke, you can temporarily disable it for a short period.
